Holiday Centers

We had lots of fun on December 23rd! The students got to rotate through 4 holiday themed stations after lunch.  Thank you to everyone who donated items for the afternoon and volunteered.

Bartering with Miss Linton

Today’s post is written by Miss Hanna Linton:

As part of our economics unit, today, we learned what it meant to barter and how to do it. The students were first given four cards with items ranging from a hat, stuffed animals, to an iPod and video games. The cards also included trips to the movies and zoo along with services like a hair cut and room cleaning. They all lay their cards out on their desks so their table mates could see what they got. We talked about different strategies they could use when bartering like offering more than one card if their neighbor had something they really wanted. I then set the timer for two minutes and they began to barter. Some students ended up with one thing they really wanted and others ended up with many items. Next time we will talk about some reasons why they couldn’t get the item they wanted and whether or not they like bartering or using money better.

Christmas Child- updated 12/6

Our class will be sponsoring a six year old girl  for Christmas.  You may wish to purchase something for her that you think a six year old would enjoy. We also have a wish list of some items she needs and would like for Christmas. Please send all items into school unwrapped by Dec. 8th.

I plan to update this website daily with gifts that have been purchased for our child. You can also look for updates in our homework folders. If you would like to purchase a specific item off the list, feel free to send me a quick note to check if someone else has already purchased it.  If no one has then I will reserve that item for you, if you desire.

Any money that is collected will be compiled to purchase remaining items off her wish list.  Thank you for helping to make this a merry Christmas for her and a chance for our second graders to learn how good it feels to help someone in need.

November S.T.A.R. Party

On Wednesday we celebrated excellent student behavior with our monthly Star party. Each day our Students are Taking Academic Responsibility by making good choices at school. They start the day with 4 stars and try to keep them all day or even earn an extra star for excellent behavior. Teachers kept track of student scores all month and averaged them to see who was invited to celebrate good behavior at our S.T.A.R. Party. Any student that averaged 3 stars or higher was invited to B.Y.O.D. (Bring Their Own Device) for an afternoon of fun. Those who didn’t have an electronic device they were able to use their school laptop to play games.  Students who averaged 4 stars or higher were “Rock Stars” and got a blow pop or Tootsie pop to enjoy during the party.  Now we’ll begin working on making good behavior choices for December.
