Valentine’s Day

We’re WILD about Valentine’s Day!

We had lots of fun handing out and opening up our Valentines today.  Everyone tried on some cool animal glasses (thanks Logan!)  We also enjoyed some delicious cupcakes and juice.  Unfortunately we had 7 kids absent, but we have their Valentines waiting for their return to school.

Career Blogs

During Module 2 of Language Arts we read about a lot of careers.  Students imagined a job they would like to have when they are older. They each wrote a blog entry describing what they imagine a typical day on the job would look like. Students researched this career to find information they could include on their blog entry. During this module we learned about writing dialogue and using quotation marks which we included in this project.  Each student typed their own blog to share with you.

Dentist Visit

On Friday, Dr. Berstecher from New Holland visited our third grade.  Each language arts class went to meet with him and hear about how to keep our teeth healthy.  He had a lot of student helpers and gave us goody bags to take home.

We have 4 types of teeth.
Eating fruit, vegetables, dairy and crunchy snacks will keep our teeth healthy!
Candy, dessert, soda, and dried fruit are bad for teeth.
We can keep our teeth healthy!

January S.T.A.R. Party

On Friday, 1/26 we celebrated excellent student behavior with our monthly Star party. Each day our Students are Taking Academic Responsibility by making good choices at school. They start the day with 4 stars and try to keep them all day or even earn an extra star for excellent behavior. Teachers kept track of student scores all month and averaged them to see who was invited to celebrate good behavior at our S.T.A.R. Party. Any student that averaged 3.5  stars or higher was invited to a dance party! We got our groove on to some popular dances such as YMCA, The Chicken Dance, Whip Whip Nae Nae, and The Cupid Shuffle.  Students who averaged 4 stars or higher were “Rock Stars” and received 2 glow in the dark bracelets to wear during the dance party.  Now we’ll begin working on making good behavior choices for February.

PSSA Preparation

Third grade families gathered on January 18th to learn about the PSSA and how to help their students be prepared.  Over the next ten weeks students will bring home a packet each Friday to work on at home that will be due the following Friday.  These packets will expose students to some types of questions and tasks they will encounter in April on the real PSSA. Students can work with someone at home to read the passages, write responses, and solve math problems.  As a reward for all this hard work and preparation, students who return 8 out of 10 packets will be treated to a special pizza luncheon the Friday before testing begins.
