Genius Hour- January presentations

Genius Hour is a real hit in third grade! Students are so motivated and excited to research a topic of their choice and prepare a project to present their learning.  This month nine students from our class presented their projects. We’ll keep working on our research and will have more projects to present next month.

Zach researched how sharks hunt.
Kiara shared how to care for a horse.
Cheyenne made a book about the Eiffel Tower.
Delia wrote a book to explain how hurricanes form.
Keegan researched about the creators of his favorite math game Prodigy.
Mary was curious about who Bob Ross was.
Harper researched thunder storms.
David studied what tricks dogs can do.

PTO Basket Donation

Brecknock’s annual spaghetti dinner is on March 13. Each year the PTO has a basket raffle.  Our class is putting together a Family Game Night basket for the raffle.  We need your help to fill the basket.

You might choose to send in items for the basket: board games, travel games, card games, snack mix, candy, cookies, popcorn, puzzles, gift card for a new family game, etc. Feel free to be creative!

You may also donate money if you do not have time to shop.  Please send in your cash in an envelope marked with your child’s name, teacher’s name, and basket theme and I will pass it on to our room mother.

All donations are needed by February 28th.

PSSA Preparation

Third grade families gathered on January 22nd to learn about the PSSA and how to help their students be prepared.  Over the next ten weeks students will bring home a packet each Friday to work on at home that will be due the following Friday.  These packets will expose students to some types of questions and tasks they will encounter in April on the real PSSA. Students can work with someone at home to read the passages, write responses, and solve math problems.  As a reward for all this hard work and preparation, students who return 8 out of 10 packets will be treated to a special pizza luncheon the Friday before testing begins. Thanks to all the families who came to our informational night!
