The second grade concert is fast approaching.  Today we had our last chorus practice at school.  The students did a great job with singing and speaking.  Each child brought home their song folder a few weeks ago, so hopefully they have been practicing singing at home.  There are a lot of lyrics to remember.

Reminders for the concert:

– The concert is Tuesday, May 5th at 7:00 p.m.

– It will be held at the Brecknock Auditorium.

– Students should arrive at 6:30 p.m. and go directly to their second grade classrooms.

– Remember to dress in your “best” for the evening concert (slacks, khakis, dresses, skirts….no jeans or sweat pants.)

– Students should wear jeans and Brecknock/Garden Spot t-shirts (if possible) for the school assembly that day.

A great hatch!

This morning we had 5 more chicks in the incubator which gives us a total of 8 chicks!  The chicks dried off a bit in the incubator and then moved into the tank.  The kids love watching them and listening to them peep.  During the day we kept the other eggs in the incubator but nothing else happened.  The chicks will come home with me this weekend and then will spend next week in our classroom.  If you are interested in adopting any chicks, please return your signed slip by Tuesday.

We have chicks!

This morning when I arrived at school we had 3 chicks in our incubator.  They hatched from three different color eggs (white, tan, and brown) so each chick looks different.  There is a black chick with a yellow face, a yellow chick, and a silver gray chick.  They stayed in the incubator till around 10:00 and then I moved them to a glass tank with a heat lamp.  The chicks spent the day huddled in a pile sleeping and drying off.  By the end of the day they were walking around and checking out their water and food.  There are still plenty of other eggs in the incubator.  During the day a few started to crack but there wasn’t much progress made.  When we left there were 7 eggs with some sort of crack. We’ll see what tomorrow brings!

They’re hatching!

Today when we arrived to school 3 eggs had cracks in them.  As they day went on we continued to check on them.  By the end of the day there were two eggs close to hatching and a fourth one with a little crack.  Mrs. Swavely texted me around 6 pm. to say that one chick had hatched!  I can’t wait for tomorrow to see if we have any others.

Egg update- day 19

Today I put down wet paper towels and laid the eggs on them.  We will not turn the eggs anymore.  The chicks are getting in position and preparing to hatch. The wet paper towels make the air really humid which makes hatching easier for the little chicks.  Cross your fingers that we’ll start seeing chicks hatch on Wednesday!
