Pathways to Success

Garden Spot High School

Kate Hershey – Marketing & Photography Internship

My name is Kate Hershey and this semester I have the privilege of interning in the Marketing Department at Garden Spot Village. GSV is located in New Holland, PA and is a popular place to live when in retirement. I work closely with another intern and four other Marketing Department members to uphold their media presence.

Every day when I come to my internship I go through my emails and check a scheduling website to see what tasks are assigned to me for the day. At my internship, job duties vary from day to day, so it is important to check for new tasks every day. Sometimes I get tasks that span over a couple weeks, while still having smaller responsibilities to do (such as taking pictures of new buildings on the property). Some of my main responsibilities are uploading pictures and videos onto the server, renaming them, and editing them. At the end of each day, I save all the projects I might be working on and log off my computer.

Over the past few months, I have been given a wide variety of projects to work on. I am currently working on 360 shots around Garden Spot Village for their website to create an interactive tour for potential future residents to explore. Prior to that I filmed multiple videos, edited them, and turned them into a PowerPoint. The whole project took about two weeks to complete, and the client from GSV was very pleased with the finished product. This internship experience has already helped me grow in many areas. I have learned how to film and edit video clips, operate new Adobe apps, and record podcasts. I am also learning how to juggle multiple tasks at once, which will greatly benefit me in the future.

Interning at Garden Spot Village has affected my future career path by confirming in my mind the direction I want to go. I’ve found that I love working with a team of people to accomplish tasks. I also know I want to continue in the path of marketing and photography. I am very grateful to have this opportunity to learn and grow in my skills through the internship program.
