Cassidy Hoover – Social Work & Ministry Internship

CrossNet Ministries in New Holland is always full of life and every day brings new surprises and tasks. When I approached CrossNet’s table at the internship fair last year school year, I had no idea how much it would impact my high school experience and future career goals. Everything about Crossnet brings me joy and purpose.

I had no idea what to expect on my first day of interning this fall, but as time when on, I quickly got into a routine. Lisa, my mentor, always has a list of tasks for me to complete. When I walk through the office door, Nicki welcomes me and gives me that list. My work usually consists of data entry, sifting through paperwork, making phone calls, going to meetings, mailing invitations, or even writing thank you letters. Sometimes I work with the volunteers to get certain tasks accomplished in a timely manner. The best part of my routine is getting to have good conversations with the ladies in the office about upcoming events for CrossNet or just life in general (and Carl).

The majority of my work is dedicated to our Christmas Present Program. This program helps struggling families provide gifts for their children. My job is to look at the applications and wish lists from the families, call them to confirm, and enter their names into Google Doc. Once that is done, Lisa and I will match them with an appropriate donor and enter the donor information into the Google Doc. In December, the parents will come to CrossNet to wrap and pick up the gifts that their donor shopped for.

Although I have only been at CrossNet for a few months, I feel at home there. I have grown so much as a person and as a Christ-Follower. I have learned simple things like how to use the scanner or how to organize a Google Document, but at Crossnet they teach you how to love others unconditionally! I now find joy in the simple or monotonous tasks. I have learned that life is chaotic and messy, but that’s okay. When I first started interning at CrossNet, I was very unsure about my future. Seeing what the atmosphere is like in the ministry industry, I could see myself pursuing a career in it. I have felt a calling towards social services and helping people in any way I can. I am excited to see what this industry has for me next.

Going to CrossNet Ministries is the highlight of my day. I feel closer to God and to others when I am there, even when I am simply sealing envelopes. I would encourage anyone to get involved with Crossnet and learn more about this amazing ministry.
