Pathways to Success

Garden Spot High School

Quinton Coover – Retail Co-Op

I started working as a cashier and a cart collector at Yoder’s Country Market on East Main St. in New Holland at the end of the school year last year. When I’m at the register I mostly just scan customers’ items, carts on the other hand are a bit more than just collecting carts. On days I’m assigned to do carts I collect trash from all the trash cans in the grocery store and down the hall of the restaurant and from the pharmacy. I fill bags for all of the registers and collect baskets that customers leave at registers. I personally prefer to do carts because I’m not just standing in one place all day and it’s more productive.

Working at Yoder’s has taught me to be more patient with people, especially the elderly, I find myself helping older folks out with how to use a credit/debit card every now and then. I sometimes get a customer that needs help to their car, and I do like helping them with their stuff and it really does feel good to help people sometimes. I’ve also learned to be more creative on certain things, for example, I help put up decorations for each holiday that’s coming up and figure out where things go and if something breaks, I have to figure out how to fix it and not make it look noticeable.

Working at Yoder’s will definitely help me be more comfortable with going up to people to sponsor myself with my future photography career. I used to be very quiet and not very talkative but working at Yoder’s brought me out of the rock I was hiding under. I plan on working at Yoder’s either till graduation or if I find a photography job till I’m able to afford to make my own business for photography.
