Alex O’Neill – Agriculture Education Internship
My name is Alex O’Neill and I am an intern at Pequea Valley High School Agriculture Department. I am a senior at Garden Spot High School. I chose to start this internship with the idea of learning what it takes to be not only a teacher, as well as an FFA Advisor. Through this experience, I hope to reassure my choice in becoming an agriculture educator. Even though my time with Pequea Valley FFA is for a small time, I hope to make the best of my time there to experience another look into a different style of teaching.
Through this experience, I have been able to see the different styles of teaching from two teachers and four different classes. I participated in Mrs. Vansant Large Animal Science and Agriculture Biology classes, and Mr. Masser’s Agriculture Biology and Power Tech classes. Through these classes, I was able to observe different content and different teaching styles.
At my Internship, I am mainly involved with helping the students in any way I can. Most of the time that is helping the students in their animal science class and their large animal science class. I have thoroughly also enjoyed planning Garden Spot High School’s Middle School Agriculture club.
I have so had a pretty great experience, learning what all it takes to be an agriculture teacher as well as an advisor. I look forward to the next quarter and to continue to learn not only different topics of learning. But also continue to learn about myself and figure out for sure that I want to pursue a career as an agriculture educator.
