Pathways to Success

Garden Spot High School

1st Annual Internship Fair

Tuesday, March 6, 2018, was the 1st Annual Garden Spot High School Internship Fair organized by the Pathways2Success program.  During lunch, high school juniors had the opportunity to network with businesses from around the county with the hopes of securing an internship for their senior year.

An Internship gives students an opportunity to try on a career and gain real-world hands-on experience before pursuing a career post-secondary.  These newly gained skills and experiences are greatly influential when making future education and career decisions.  Internships are also highly valued on college and employment applications.  Statistics show that students who participate in internships are more likely to find full-time employment.

Reianna Dieter, Garden Spot Junior, came to the internship fair with the hopes of securing the criminal justice internship with the New Holland District Court.  She stated, “In this internship, you get to see a wide variety of jobs.  You get to work with an attorney, a judge, the state police, public defenders, basically all the jobs in this career industry.  This internship will benefit me because I will get a taste of a job before I pursue a job in college.”

Randy Mccarty, Executive Director of Clark Associates Charitable Foundation, represented Clark Inc. at in the internship fair.  “We participated because we would like to help support young people in making wise career choices and we feel that a real-world work experience through an internship program is a great way for High School students to learn more about themselves as they choose a career path.”

Horizon Hospitality Solutions/CraftPoint Concepts participated in the fair “because we strongly believe that people have an impact on business. Our company’s core values play a large part in our company culture. We would like to showcase that culture with an Internship. We also like the idea of young talent being exposed to the industry,” Anita Moonsammy, HR Director.

“I believe in internships. Oftentimes, they provide the essential bridge connecting the academic world and the world of business and medicine. The classroom is where skills are learned. Internships  provide an environment where what’s learned is applied, reinforced, or perfected.” Dr. Daniel C. West, Garden Spot Dental Care

“Being that I grew up in New Holland, and as alumni of Garden Spot High School, I feel that the internship program is a great way to give back to the community that helped shape me. By participating in this program, our business will be able to pass down skills that have been learned and tailored for over 37 years. We hope to continue to have an impact in this community with our services, and look to help shape the career pathways for our young people.” said Dr. Jonathan Andrews, a local optometrist and business owner in the New Holland community.
