Collin Burkholder – Student Ministry Internship

My name is Collin Burkholder, and I am a senior at Garden Spot High School. When deciding to pick which internship I wanted to pursue, I was very unsure. However, coming from a Christian background, I decided to pray about my career path. An opportunity had presented itself in which I could not pass down. I had decided to do my internship at Christian Fellowship Church as a Student Ministry intern. I was so lucky to be provided with this internship because it allowed me to realize that I am passionate about working with kids.

My internship looks very different from your average internship. Wednesday nights, I am a youth group leader with another leader, and we are responsible for roughly 5-7 kids within our small group. However, there are more like 40 junior high kids that attend youth group. Wednesday nights, we play a group game in the gym, then go to our youth room and receive a bible teaching from Jason Rohrbaugh, my mentor, and then we end with small groups where we talk about the lesson and how we can apply it to our lives. Just recently, we went to sky zone for a fun night out.

When I am not acting as a Youth Group Leader, I am helping Jason coordinate youth group events for Junior High and Senior High. In addition, I have made a bunch of sign-up sheets for events within our youth group, such as music ministries, volunteer opportunities, and a youth conference that we will be attending. My two favorite things that I have done recently were designing our Youth Group T-shirt and helping with the construction of our new youth room that should hopefully be finished come December.

I will be forever grateful for the opportunities that I have been provided by interning at Christian Fellowship Church. Not only have I received valuable teaching skills for later in life when I become a teacher, but I have also been lucky enough to receive a church family that I can always count on being there for me. I would highly recommend looking at a Christian base internship like this one; if you are interested in working with kids, you receive a very different perspective when it comes to teaching in this way.
