We have been learning about nouns, plural nouns and verbs this year.  Today my reading groups reviewed these word categories using Mad Libs.  None of the students were familiar with Mad Libs but had so much fun!  First we generated a list of nouns, plural nouns, verbs and adjectives on the board.  Then we worked together to fill in the blanks on a Christmas themed Mad Lib story.  When we read the finished story together there was tons of laughter and smiles.  If you are looking for a quick stocking stuffer or last minute Christmas gift, consider a Mad Libs notebook for your second grader!
