We’re hatching chicks….AGAIN!

In the fall we attempted to hatch chicks but did not have a successful hatch.  Today we began a second try at this life cycle project.  Mrs. Swavely got us 2 dozen eggs from her uncle’s farm and we added them to the incubator.   I numbered each egg and marked each one with a pencil O  on one side and X on the other.  Three times a day the eggs need to be turned over and these markings will help us know which ones we’ve turned. The incubator must remain at 100 degrees.  If all goes well we will have little fluffy chicks in 21 days!  Check back daily for updates on how our chicks are growing and the students who are helping to care for the eggs.

History Review

Today we wrapped up our unit about important historical figures. In this unit we learned about George Washington, Abraham Lincoln, Teddy Roosevelt, Martin Luther King Jr., Thomas Edison, Betsy Ross, Francis Scott Key, Harriet Tubman, and Lewis and Clark with Sacagawea. Our quiz is on Friday and these are just few extra resources for you to explore to help study for the quiz. Don’t forget you also have your study guide, venn diagram, and fact book!

Go Noodle

This week our class started using GoNoodle. GoNoodle is a website of brain breaks and fun activities.  We have been using the indoor recess mixes to get some energy out on these cold, snowy days. It can also be used as a transition during learning when we need to get a quick stretch.

GoNoodle uses short periods of physical activity –dancing, running, jumping, deep breathing, and more – to help kids channel their abundant energy. Kids wiggle. GoNoodle gets the wiggles out, so we can keep on learning!

You might want to check out GoNoodle at home. As a parent of a second grader and a fourth grader I can vouch for the fact that my kids love it.  I created a parent account over the weekend and we were doing kid zumba, secret handshakes, and singing together. Use it to help your energetic kids get their wiggles out at home and have fun as a family!

How to sign up:

1. Go to www.gonoodle.com.

2. Click “Sign Up.”

3. Sign up as a parent and create accounts for each of your kids!
