My book is called “The Hate U Give” by Angie Thomas, and it was one of the books Mrs. Means recommended to me and it’s really good so far. It covers the topic of racism and police brutality. I already read a few chapters and it’s pretty gruesome in the beginning. A girl named Starr and her sister Kenya go to a party where there are teens smoking weed and drinking alcohol. Kenya’s plan at the party was to start a fight with a girl who kept talking behind her back and have Starr fight with her. But Starr wasn’t interested so she stayed behind to let Kenya fight the girl with her friends. Starr was left alone and was on her phone when her ex boyfriend Khalil came up to her. They both talked for a while to catch up until suddenly they hear two gunshots. The two ran away to Khalil’s car and he was on the way to drop off Starr when a police car came up from behind them. The police pulled them over and was being completely unfair to the two. I won’t spoil what happens next since it’s kind of sad. Overall, the book is great and I loved the way the author wrote it. It grabbed my attention quick.
This book seems really good. Even though it looks sad I am interested to see what happens when the police pulls them over.
