All Too Well – This song fits this book so well. Lily Meets ryle and falls in love, but then things take a turn for the worse, and she sees his bad side. Ultimately, his abuse leads to the fall of their marriage. All Too Well, by Taylor Swift, is talking about a relationship Swift had where she loved him, but it was an abusive, toxic, environment where she couldn’t stay. This being said, she remembers everything about the relationship “All too well”. This plays into direct correlation with the book because Lily remembers both the good and bad times “All too well” which made her decision to leave so hard.

Circles – in the song Circles by Post Malone, he sings about a relationship where they just keep running from each other but they end up running in circles. He says “seasons change but where running in circles”. This applies to many parts of this book. First off, Lily sees her parents go through this terrible cycle of abuse where her father would get drunk and hit her mom, he would sober up, apologize, then she would forgive him. They were running in circles.

Another part of the book this song relates to is Lily and Ryles relationship. Similar to her mom, Lily begins to be caught in the same cycle of abuse in her marriage. Ryle would be blinded by his anger, hit her, then apologize. Although, in the end, Lily learned from her moms mistakes and left him breaking the cycle.

You Broke My Heart – You Broke My Heart by Current Joys discusses how they were hurt by their significant other and while they want to take them back, they cant,  because they know someone who loves them wouldn’t hurt them like that. While this song is most likely talking about cheating, I think it also could relate to the abuse that Lily was faced with by Ryle. She loved him and knew he loved her but he hurt her over and over again “breaking her heart”.  Ultimately she had to leave because of what he did to her.

Bags – I think this song can be sung from the perspective of Ryle. He sees the harm he’s causing and watches Lily “Walkin’ out the door,” with her bags. While this song is talking about a relationship where the singer is expressing her confusion and anger about the situation, in the book Ryle knows what the problem is and understands why she’s leaving him. He also knows its for the best.

Cry – There are several parts of this book that evoked tears. The Song specifically is talking about a relationship where it’s in the perspective of someone who hurts their significant other. He sings,  “I swear I’ll only make you cry”. Ryle knows he’s only going to make Lily cry in the end. He can’t control his actions when he’s angry and therefore can’t control how he treats Lily in those moments when he only sees red. Ryle Loves her and because of his love for her, lets her go, making her cry.

Paper Rings – Most of these songs on this playlist were talking about Ryle and Lily’s relationship. However, this song most relates with Lily and Atlas’s relationship when they were kids. He was a poor homeless teenager who Lily decided to help. Eventually the two fell in love. She didn’t care about how he had no money and just wanted to be with him. Similarly, in the song, Taylor Swift talks about how she is so in love with her significant other that she would take a paper ring if it meant she could marry him. The paper ring alludes to money and how she would choose a life without fancy things if it meant they could be together.  All that mattered was their love for each other and that was enough.

Novel Reactions

I actually really enjoyed It Ends With Us by Colleen hoover. The book gave me a rollercoaster of emotions and was not as predictable as I thought it was going to be. However, while I understand the ending, I wish that it would of ended differently. Nonetheless,  I definitely recommend reading this book.

Week 15: Gatsby Review

I actually enjoyed the Great Gatsby. I liked the book and really enjoyed watching the movie. However, I thought the ending was kind of sad and, even though gatsby wasn’t the best guy, I wish he could’ve had a happy ending.  Also, I did not like daisy and I think she was so cruel for leading Gatsby on.

Week 14

I believe that children and children should obey their parents until they move out. This is because, I think that since the child is living in their parents house, most likely rent free, they should respect their parents enough to follow their rules.

Week 12: Independent Novel

For my independent novel I chose to read It Ends With Us by Colleen Hoover. I am really enjoying this book and I actually really like the characters and the Authors writing style. I’m also really invested in the book and just want to know how it’s gonna end.

News Article

So far, 39 bodies have been found on land, in Coastal Kenya, owned by a pastor. After further investigation, police found that those people were told, by the pastor of their cult, to fast to death. More bodies are being discovered and dozens of shallow graves are being dug up on the property.

I wonder what the pastor’s reason was for the members fasting.

What did the cult believe?

News Article

On december 19, 2022, Aryion Dupree pleaded guilded for trafficking minors. However, on February 14, 2023, he was sentenced to 324 month in  prison with the orders to serve a 15 year supervised release following his served sentence. It is know that this man did have a rough childhood, but ultimately the jury decided that it didn’t in any way justify the abuse and rape of the several women he caused. He tattooed his victims with his brand; a crown with a money bag.  The Human Trafficking Rescue Alliance worked to take down this trafficking ring and is currently working to eliminate other rings. In this specific case, I wonder how they caught this man. Also, how are they actively working on shutting down this trafficking ring and making sure that none of the people involved get away with it?

My book

I picked The Inheritance by Louisa May Alcott for my book to read this quarter. I chose this novel because it seems interesting and I’ve heard good things about it. Also, the book seems to involve romance which is one of my favorite genres.
