For my news article I picked an article on entrepreneurship. This news article talks about a a small town business that goes nationwide. This business is called Small Town Cultures, it all started with a woman that was told she had to be on meds for the rest of her life, instead she changed what she ate by creating it herself. Her product is fermented food that is healthy for your gut. This product has been extremely successful throughout the nation. I think that this is awesome that she had a problem so she fixed it by creating her own product. My questions are, where can you buy this? And, why are these foods so healthy for you?

Week 16

For my choice book, I chose “Into Thin Air” by Jon Krakauer. This book was a very good non-fiction book about the disaster on Mount Everest in 1996. The book details Krakauer’s journey to being selected to go on the trip, to his altitude sickness, his journey to the summit of mount everest, and finally the disaster that occurs as he descends back down the mountain. This book was very good and I would recommended reading it to anyone who wants to read a good book. It was very interesting to learn all the details that go into climbing the tallest summit in the world. For my project I will do the ABC book.

Week 15

Lately in class we have been discussing  the book “Of Mice and Men” and what the American dream looked like in the 1930s. In the 1930s America was going through the Great Depression and times were rough for everyone. The american dream looked very different for people than what it looked like in prior years and the years to come.  The american dream in the 1930s was all about just having enough money to make it by and have enough food to survive. It is very interesting how different the American Dream is through different time periods.

Week 14

In class we have been discussing “The Great Gatsby” and what the American Dream is. I think that this book discussed and portrayed some very disgusting and distasteful ideas. With Nick and his group of rich friends lying, cheating, doing whatever it takes to get to the top. This whole time all Gatsby was trying to do was achieve his american dream. Gatsby filthy rich so everything he did was to impress a girl he fell in love with 5 years ago, Daisy. His american dream was being with Daisy. And he did everything he could to achieve this no matter how evil it was. I think that the American dream is different for every person. The general American Dream is to make money, have a family, and prosper by working hard. The way of achieving this should be done by hard work and I think it is doable for most by hard work. When it is achieved by ways like Gatsby, I think this is extremely wrong and not what the idea of the American Dream should embody.

Week 13

https://www.bbc.com/news/world-us-canada-51090163

For the article that I chose to read for this week the article was discussing prohibition  and its history. This article shares how there is still a movement today against alcohol for prohibition called the temperance movement. This movement believes that alcohol is immoral and should be banned. The rest of the article discusses the many negative effects of prohibition and why prohibition went into effect in the 1920s. On story that the article shared was in a small town in  Massachusetts where alcohol was banned from 1856 to 2005. I think this is very interesting how long it was banned in this small town and that there still is support for prohibition. My questions are how was this small town able to stay without alcohol for so long? And are there any countries that alcohol is illegal in today?

Week 12

For my novel choice I chose “Into Thin Air” by Jon Krakauer. This book is a personal account about a disaster that happened on Mount Everest. Krakauer tells his story about the storm that happened in 1996 on Mount Everest that killed 8 climbers and stranded many others including himself. I chose to read this book because it was recommended to me by a teacher and I really wanted to read a non-fiction story.

Week 11

In class we have been reading and discussing the book “The Great Gatsby”. So far this book has been very gloomy and sad. In class we have discussed the reliability of our narrator Nick. I think that Nick is an unreliable narrator because he is getting drunk and he has a bias. The part of the story that we have read so far has been unsettling because it was confusing but also about Nick going to these parties and getting drunk. Fitzgerald’s diction and grammar has been quite interesting and quite confusing at times.

Week 10

In class we have been discussing civil obedience. I think that this is so important in society. So many things have been accomplished because of these peaceful protest and civil disobedience. The impact made be peaceful protests such as King are so important. It also ties into conformity because this people are deciding not to conform to what others decided and say. They speak and act out peacefully through civil disobedience to make a difference.

Week 9
