October6

We are working hard in third grade as we near the end of the first marking period! The students continue to show how respectful and responsible they are each day. I’m proud of all their hard work!

Reading: In reading we read My Rows and Piles of Coins. Along with this story, we focused on author’s purpose, character, setting, and story structure. The students are getting used to transferring their answers from our weekly test from paper to online. This is a skill we will continue to work on to prepare for the state tests in the spring. For this week, we will review skills from Unit 1 in Reading Street. The skills include compare and contrast, author’s purpose, story structure, story elements, and sequencing. At the end of the week, students will take the first benchmark test which will cover all of these skills. There are NO spelling words this week!

Writing: Our day full of writing was a success last week! We took time to explore adjectives and did a fun activity where we had to describe apples. The students enjoyed coming up with adjectives and eating the apples too! We are continuing with our personal narratives.

Math: Last week was a review and test week. The students did a nice job on the Unit 1 test. This week we move to Unit 2 and our main focus will be place value. We will be working on identifying place value of digits within a number, identifying the value of each digit, and using expanded form to express a number.

Science: We are continuing with our Agriculture unit this week. Students will explore where food comes from. We will also begin explore the food and fiber system. The students will look at production, processing, natural resource management, and marketing.
