We are only a few weeks away from the end of the first marking period. I can’t believe how quickly time is flying by! We had a great week in third grade once again!

Reading: In reading, we read a story called Supermarket and worked on comparing and contrasting. The students learned about Venn Diagrams and spent time comparing many different things throughout the week. We are moving onto a new story this week called My Rolls and Piles of Coins. Our focus skill will be author’s purpose and story structure. We will have a spelling test and comprehension test on Friday.

Writing: We will be adding more time into our schedule for writing, which is very exciting! The students are continuing to work on their personal narratives and I would like to see them finished by the end of next week. We have been working hard to edit begin our final copies!

Math: In math, we have been finishing up our Review unit. Last week we spent more time working with money and focusing on Frames and Arrows as well. Monday and Tuesday of this week will be used as review sessions as we will be having our first test on Wednesday. Unit 2 will begin the week of October 7th. The next unit will focus on addition and subtraction.

Science: We will be moving to a new unit in science on Agriculture. The students will be exploring how agriculture impacts our everyday lives as well as looking into the food and fiber system. We are all very excited for Ag. Day at Brubaker Park on October 15!

Odds and Ends:

Picture day will be October 10th. Please be sure to fill out the picture day form sent home last Friday.

Ag. Day will be October 15th. Please return permission forms by October 3rd.

Friday, October 4th is a half day!

As always, if you have any questions or concerns, do not hesitate to contact me!

Thank you,

Miss Gentile

Are parents allowed to join the Ag. Day at Brubaker Park? 🙂

Hi Mrs. Heckathorn! Yes, we are asking for three parents from each homeroom to join us. I sent home a bright yellow sheet last week asking for chaperons. I will be selecting those on Tuesday 10/8. Please let me know if you need another sheet! Have a good afternoon!
