Each April, Montpelier, Vermont celebrates poetry in a big way. Storefronts and restaurant windows are covered in poems written by the capital’s residents. There is also opportunities for people who are interested in the poems to participate in poetry workshops and discuss poetry as an artform. What’s so special about this year of poetry celebration, though, is that Montpelier is hosting its first ever poetry parade. Along with the parade, 30 poetry programs were planned to allow residents to enjoy poetry wherever they went in the city. I think this idea is a great way to spread the interest of poetry and literature in general. Poetry is a nice gateway to get into learning about the deeper meanings in many literary pieces.
