End of Marking Period #2

The end of the second marking period means the midway point in the school year.  Wow!  Time sure does fly when you love what you do.

Goal Achievement Updates are being sent home for all elementary gifted support students within the week ahead.  These updates are intended to be a brief check-point for you regarding your student’s gifted goals.  Our gifted services department has recently decided to change from quarterly updates to biannual updates.  So, moving forward, you will receive these updates at the mid-point of the school year and at the end of the school year.  Of course, if you have any questions about your child’s goals or progress toward them in between these times, don’t hesitate to ask.

The first week of February, all of our elementary gifted students in grades 2-6 will begin the process of independent investigation on a topic of their choice.  “Independent” refers to the fact that students will have choice in their topic selection and learn how to gather information on their own, with supports and instruction on the process.  You can expect to see Learning Contracts coming home with their selected topic in a few weeks.  Please ask your child frequently how their process is going; when children know the adults in their life are interested in their learning, they are more likely to be motivated to continue the process.

At the end of the research process, of course, your children will be excited to present to you what they have learned.  That will happen at our annual Elementary Gifted Expo, being held on Tuesday, May 19, 2020 at Blue Ball Elementary from 6:30-8:00pm.  Please mark the date on your calendar now.
