Camryn Owens – Physical Therapy Internship

Hello, my name is Camryn Owens and I am a senior enrolled in Garden Spot High School.  Throughout this wonderful experience at CPRS Physical Therapy, I was handed the opportunity to obtain knowledge and experience within the profession of Physical Therapy. My daily responsibilities involved cleaning tables and preparing equipment for the patients. When the physical therapist and physical therapy assistants started working with the patients I shadowed them as they worked on the patients communicating with me exactly what they were doing to the patient.

I have learned numerous valuable experiences throughout this internship. I have gained an understanding of the importance of communication between the therapist and patients with them being completely honest about how they truly feel with complete honesty throughout the whole recovery process, as well as the importance of pressure control when performing therapy on a patient.

One of the most important experiences I gained at my internship was the opportunity to watch sessions between the clients and patients. I was allowed to see firsthand the process taken throughout therapy sessions to help the patient succeed with the help of a loving goal-directed physician. After watching numerous evaluations I have seen the steps taken to help patients succeed. Everything these therapists have patients do is for a reason and even when the patients are doubtful they continue to do what the physician suggests and they see great results.

This internship has provided me with a very valuable understanding of the true aspects of a career in Physical Therapy. Providing a more in-depth example of what this profession truly consists of. This internship has truly advanced my communication skills and I truly believe this internship provided me with the knowledge I will be able to use in any healthcare-related setting. One other positive thing I have learned from this internship is how demanding this position is which also interested me in this field because I am passionate about helping others improve.

This internship at CPRS Physical Therapy was an outstanding experience with very benefits to those interested in a career in Physical therapy or related professions with a first-hand view of what goes on between physician and patient. Although the tasks I am assigned may seem small and boring they are very important for making the patients as comfortable as possible as well as making the session go by smoothly. I am very thankful for this opportunity to be granted to me and hope this will be beneficial to my future goals and aspirations.
