Bryonna Buck – Aeroponic Greenhouse Internship

Hello, my name is Bryonna Buck and I am a senior at Garden Spot High School. Currently, I am interning in the school’s agriculture department taking over a small business called Spartanponics. Spartanponics is a small industry where tower gardens are used to grow vegetables to be sold and picked by students such as myself.

My typical day includes looking at the grow light station and making sure all the plants I have grown and planted the previous day are in good shape and are growing. After this, I would be checking the towers themselves and seeing if there are any holes or missing rockwool. Rockwool is what is used instead of soil which fits into slots on the growing towers. I also check to see if any are ready to be picked as well as check the ph levels in each of the five towers.

I am also in charge of running the website and marketing the product. I make google forms for people in the community to have a nice and organized route to order. A link is provided in emails sent out and it is even on the Grassland FFA web page. I also package the vegetables and seal them as well as put the label on the packaging. I write thank you notes to our customers for purchasing our product. All proceeds go to present and future FFA members.

I am so thankful for my opportunity to intern at this position. It will give me a good step into the working world when looking at business management as well as marketing. I enjoy this internship and plan to further it throughout the year. It has been highly beneficial for me to take on such a project and grow with Mrs.Ranck and build connections like the ones I have made with fellow students and even teachers and community members who are very happy and enthusiastic to purchase the products. I am thankful for the internship program at Garden Spot High School and that I was able to be a part of it.
