Pathways to Success

Garden Spot High School

Robbie Sensenig – Mechanical Co-Op

My name is Robbie Sensenig and I am currently enrolled in the Co-op program at Garden Spot High School. I joined Co-op because I wanted to be able to work while being in school. I’m working at PowerPro Equipment as a parts assistant, but I have plans to stay at PowerPro and grow within the company to become a mechanic to work on outdoor equipment.

PowerPro is in New Holland, West Chester, Allentown, Lebanon, York, and Ringoes, NJ. I work at the New Holland branch. Some of my daily duties are shipping and receiving. When UPS or FedEx drops parts off, I must make sure everything is accounted for and not broken. Then I go to the computer and receive the parts, so they are in our inventory.  Some other duties I have been learning the different vendors we deal with and driving to drop off and pick parts up. I have learned common parts that customers come in to get. An example is the Hustler mower deck scout wheels. They wear out and then need to be replaced frequently. I also drive to Beliers Hydraulics in Leola to pick up hydraulics hoses and fittings that we use on many machines.

I have faced challenges and success in this job. The first week was rough because the computer software we use is very complex to use. Once I got used to the software it was very easy for me to use. I have done a lot of organizing for the parts department that has made finding parts and inventory much easy. My future goal is to work my way out into the shop and work on the Pettibone telescopic forklifts.

The things I have learned at my job and in the classroom are organization and customer service skills.  These skills will better prepare me for the future. Organization if such a big part of my job right now but the more I work I can see the organization is huge in my personal life too. I never thought about customer service until this job but learning to interact better with customers will help me be more successful in the parts department. Co-op has helped me decide what I would like to do in my future and has better prepared me for that career.
