Earth Day 2016 Save the Earth: Water Pollution

kkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkk  Water Pollution

kk How many people love Earth? Probably everyone because without the Earth we wouldn’t have a home. Well if we really love Earth we should take care of it. And something we could help with is water pollution. Water pollution is toxic chemicals sprayed or put into rivers, lakes, oceans, streams, creeks, or any other body of water. Water pollution doesn’t only effect one thing or person it effects everyone. For example, if you throw a plastic bag into the ocean and think one bag couldn’t hurt you’re wrong because a lot of may think that and then there will be thousands of pollution in the water. And when a sea turtle or any animal looks at they might think it’s food so they could get sick from eating it. Don’t you think we should save the Earth from water pollution?

kkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkk  Causes

kk The thing that causes most water pollution is from people. A thing that people do is put some our waste into the water. So much of our waste goes into the water that every day 2 million tons (1.8 billion kilograms) of waste goes into our waterways. That’s  70% of our waste going into the water! We also need to save the earth because on average 99 million pounds of toxic chemicals are released into the water each year. Farmers use pesticides and chemicals for their farms and fields and it washes into the water. It’s not only from people though it can be natural. That means that since some countries aren’t that rich their water is very dirty and is dangerous to drink from, but since that’s all they have for them it’s better than nothing. Imagine if you had to drink water that the whole village bathed in and wasn’t filtered like ours. Lots of our sewage, waste, pesticides, and toxic chemicals get into the water and it’s not healthy.

…………………………………………….Effects

…. Effects from all of this is that people and animals can get sick. In 20 seconds a child dies from a water-related disease. And documented deaths from water pollution is from 5 to 10 million deaths. Think about it that’s just documented imagine the ones not documented too. You may not care, but you would if it was a family member. Lots of families get sick from this and we should stop it. And kids that get sick and don’t make it from water pollution diseases have 1,000 parasitic worms in their body. And the water pollution effects more than half of the world’s population. And we could do something about it, but instead we spend it on things in the United States like things that aren’t a need. For example, Starbucks, amusement parks (Hershey Park), etc when we could help people who don’t have clean filtered water.

…………………………………………. .Solutions

I think that saving the Earth is very important. If we just took some time to clean and not pollute we could change this all. When I grow up I hope to see a difference in the world, and maybe it could be our generation that does it. I want to have a whole month if we could of not polluting the water and cleaning up our beaches, rivers, ponds, etc. It could be like an Earth day, but a whole month or more of it. And maybe have farmers use natural pesticides and chemicals that don’t harm the water. We could have people going over to places that need help with the water like in Africa. For that day we could clean and filter their water. The United States could give some more money to those places for them to purify their water instead of making more Starbucks cafes. Or we could send clean water to people without purified water.

Week 6 Blog Challenge: Activity 1 Popular Stories in my Country

kk A popular story in PA is “Diary of a Wimpy Kid”.  This book is popular all over and is written by Jeff Kinney. It’s especially a popular series because some of the books have been made into movies. For the “Kids Choice Awards” it has won favorite book in 2015 and 2011. And the movie version of the book was nominated best family film at the Las Vegas Film Critics Society Awards, and also nominated favorite movie at the “Kids Choice Awards”. Total the series has 11 books. If you’re unsure what the “Diary of a Wimpy Kid” book is it’s about a kid named Greg Heffley who struggles going through school. But going through school he’s not alone he has his best friend Rowley. The series started on a website ( Funbrain.com ) in 2004. Then they printed it in April 2007.  The 11 books from the series are the original Diary of a Wimpy Kid (first book), Dog Days, The Last Straw, Cabin Fever, Rodrick Rules, The Third Wheel, The Ugly Truth, Old School, The Long Haul, Hard Luck, and The Wimpy Kid Movie Diary. Another book is The Wimpy Kid Do-It-Yourself book. For The Do-It-Yourself book you get to be the author, illustrator, and main character. Learn more here.

kk Another popular book in PA (Pennsylvania) is “The Tortoise and the Hare”. This book is easier to read than Diary of a Wimpy Kid and has colored pictures for younger kids. It is about a hare and a tortoise who race each other and since the hare is overconfident he takes many breaks and the tortoise keeps going the whole time. At the end the hare Max learned a lesson. To find out what he learned watch the short story below. This book has not won as many awards as “Diary of a Wimpy Kid”, but has been nominated film award at the BAFTA (British Academy of Film and Television Arts) awards. For this book their are also many different versions and different authors. And this kind of book is an Aesop fable. At 2 minutes and 27 seconds (2:27) you can pause it because that’s not really part of the story.
