The Big Read

At my school, Blue Ball Elementary, we are doing a program called the Big Read. The Big Read is when the whole school reads the same book. Also if they don’t have time to read the chapter they were supposed to read at home. They can go to the Blue Ball Elementary site, and they can listen to different teachers read that chapter. My homeroom teacher reads the last chapter. Last year we read Frindle. By Andrew Clements. Personally I thought that it was a fairly good book. This year we are reading The Lemonade War. It is about Evan Treski who is people smart, and his sister, Jessie, who is math smart. During the summer they decide to make a lemonade stand, but then Evan gets made a Jessie. You should definitely read this book sometimes. The author of this book is Jacqueline Davies. Finally I wanted to tell you that our 5th and 6th graders are having a competition to see who can sell the most lemonade. It is soooo cool ! 6th grade sells their lemonade for the first 2 weeks of May, and then the last 2 weeks 5th grade sells their lemonade. Every cup is 25 cents. The good thing about selling all of this lemonade, is that we are supporting Alex’s Lemonade Stand. Alex’s Lemonade Stand is a lemonade stand that supports childhood cancer. We are trying to raise 2,000 dollars to give scientists a whole week of testing to find a cure for cancer. So this is what the Big Read is at our school.
