Rescue Dogs

  Rescue Dogs

The group of incredible rescue dogs from 9-11 helped find people who were killed during the terrorist attack on September, 11 2001. They worked in rubble and dust, people chose the dogs because they had sharp senses and night vision eyes. Cindy Otto, one of the first veterinarians to arrive on September, 12 2001, at the spot of the attack, she helped to feed, bath, love, and care for the dogs for the first 9 days after the attack.. The rescue dogs work also at night searching for survivors in the rubble.  They were a great help to the rescue teams because they could hear, and smell for people that were trapped in the rubble.

Cindy Otto went to Ground Zero in  lower Manhattan. When Cindy Otto and other researchers were studying the effects of the toxic air on the dogs they found something remarkable. They found out that the dogs at Ground Zero lived longer-than the median lifespan of an average dog which is 12 years-old. They also found out that there is a high percentage of Cancer in the dogs that worked at Ground Zero; which isn’t good for any dog. Another study showed that the dogs really protected their handlers against (PTSD)

Another quick little story we can tell is one brave    golden retriever was searching for human life in the Ground Zero. She was also known as the last surviving 9-11 dog. They are celebrating the 9-11 dogs 16th birthday. Her owner is Denise Corliss. Her name is Brentage, Brentage was just two years old when her owner Corliss recalled that her playful puppy behavior finally paid off when all her puppy energy could be used to help find people in the dirt, dust, rubble, and many other dirty and hard things.

So these are some things you can now tell your friends about rescue dogs. I found my information at http://dogtime.com/trending/20344-what-we-learned-from-the-hero-dogs-of-september-11-2001
