Our Many Sides of Noelle

The first one is her getting into her personal narrative writing prompt role of being a hair dresser when she grows up.  The second one is her troll costume.  That is her real hair.  She has a 2-liter pop bottle underneath it and her hair is colored pink.  Hysterical!

MATH- WINTER IS COMING!  I Mean…WINTER HAS COME!

My math practiced their measurement and fraction making skills this Thursday so that my room could be decorated for winter.  They made icicles and then measured them to the nearest 1/2 inch.  Then they made paper chains using fractions.  Some of their chains represented the fractions of 1/2, 1/4, 2, 4, 4/4, and so on.  Fun learning!   We also made snowflakes because it was just plain fun!  The decorations will stay up until February-March when our winter is also coming to an end.  You can never have too many decorations.  Gosh-I hope Josh doesn’t get freezer burn from holding all those icicles!

ELA: SCIENCE and QUICK SAND

Did you know that quicksand is a solid (sand), liquid (water), and gas (vapor)?  The students replicated the concept of quicksand making ooblec.  We had success!  They started their project with a solid (cornstarch) and a liquid (water and food coloring) and the next day they witnessed evaporation (gas) because the remaining ooblec turned completely dry.  However when we added more water it turned into ooblec again.  Now we are waiting for the vapors to rise during evaporation.  It was still wet on Friday.
