Week 8

https://www.nytimes.com/2022/07/31/us/elizabeth-johnson-witchcraft-exoneration.html

For my news article I picked a new article on the salem witch trials. In this article they discussed how the last convicted witch was finally declared not guilty. This was Elizabeth Johnson Jr., her name was finally cleared of witchcraft on july 28, 2o2o. She was convicted in 1693, she then later confessed guilty to her charges to avoid being killed. With no family members still alive to clear her name just recently a 8th grade civics class went through the process to clear her name. I think that this is really sad that there is people that still weren’t cleared until 329 years later. One question I have is why were all the “witches” not cleared of their name when they realized it was all lies? Another question I have is how was an 8th grade civics class able to go though this process to clear her name?

Week 7

In the book I read “Call of the Wild” by Jack London I thoroughly enjoyed the book. This book takes place in Alaska. It is about a dog that is born and raised in California; the dog: Buck is abducted and sold to be a sled dog in Alaska. Throughout the book Buck meets many new people and learns many things about being a sled dog. I loved the end of the book even though it was slightly sad. I would recommend this book to anyone who wants to read it. For my creative project I will most likely answer the written response questions or create a timeline of the book.

Week 6

This week in class we started to talk about the Witch Hunts as we begin to read “The Crucible”. In “The Crucible” so far we have read about a group of girls that are being accused of witch craft in the woods by the whole town. This speaks a lot to what we talked about in class with conformity. Some of the girls were not involved in what they are being accused of but they might conform to plead to guilty. It is also just like what we talked about in our Modern day witch hunts these people “witches” that are different from everyone else and go against everybody else’s views are being ostracized, shunned, and accused with little to no evidence.

Week 5

In class we have had some very interesting discussions. In the socratic seminar we had some very interesting discussions about gun taxes and conformity. Currently we are doing research about modern day witch hunts. Some examples of this are cancelling on social media, any kind of ostracism, or scapegoating. It is very interesting how  witch hunts are still happening today, not necessarily a real witch hunt. However the same ideas of accusing people of things with little to no reason because of different unpopular opinions and then causing chaos and fear. These ideas still persist today in what are known as modern day witch hunts.

Week 4

https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/immigration/more-migrants-crossing-northern-border-canada-us-freezing-rcna69588

In recent time migrants into the US from mexico have been getting a plane flight from Mexico into Canada then travelling south into the US. The number of migrants crossing the US-Canada border has increased by 700% in some areas. In my opinion I think that this is truly sad and unfortunate that these people have to go through such harsh things to enter our country. Unfortunately there is so many rules in place for these migrants to enter into our country that must be followed. My questions are; Why is it different crossing US-Canada border than the US-Mexico border? Why don’t they just cross the US-Mexico border rather than paying for an expensive flight?

Week 3

For my book I decided to read “The Call of the Wild” by Jack London. I decided to read this book because I had heard of the story before and was wanting to read it. I had also heard many great things about the author Jack London and wanted to read one of his books. This book was recommended to me by the librarian so I chose it. So far the book has been very interesting and entertaining. It is a book from the point of view of a dog named Buck who is stolen and sold to go to Alaska. This book as been very interesting and I am excited to read more.

Week 2

I think that the stories we have been reading in class have been very impactful. They are so important to read as we get to gain a different perspective then we have from someone who has very different experiences than us. It is so important that we read these stories so that we can gain insight and knowledge into things that we might not have even known were happening. The people that are sharing these stories are so inspiring they are able to step out in courage to share their story to inspire others. They share their stories to fight for what they are passionate about. So that’s why reading these stories are so important and impactful.

Washington D.C.

If you ever get to go to Washington D.C. you should go to the smithsonian zoo. You should go to the smithsonian zoo because it is a very cool zoo they have a lot of exotic animals that you don’t get to see any day. They have pandas, elephants, lions, seals, gorillas, and lots of more animals to see. When I went there I had a very fun time and I think you would to.

Another place you should go in Washington D.C. is The Museum of the Bible. You should go there because you would get to see what it was like to when Jesus lived so you would see what it was like at about 15 A.D. You should also go because at the top of the museum 6 or 7 floors up There is lots of windows and you get to see an amazing sight you get to see the washington monument and the capitol building. When I went it was a very fun experience and I learned a lot about the bible and what it was like back then.

The last place I recommend is the air and space museum. There is lots of hands of hands on things, so if you don’t like museums that much because all you do is look at things then this is a good museum for you. You get to learn a lot about how things fly and the history of space and planes. You also get to go inside a plane, this all of the places I recommend you go if you get to go to Washington D.C.

How my Dad relates to Daniel Watson

My Dad and Daniel are both always trying to make a joke out of something and you do not want to make either of them mad. One time my Dad was joking about when he was dating my Mom and they were on a hike, when they were hiking he hurt his ankle and my Mom went ahead of him to go with other boys. You don’t want to get Daniel Watson mad for an example when Byron was lighting fire to things Mama couldn’t burn him so he had to talk to Daniel and you could tell that wouldn’t be any better then getting your hand burned. They both are not home a lot because they are working. This is how my dad relates to Daniel Watson.

Weird Reimers

When I was around three of four my sister was sick and we had to go somewhere so that my sister could get her blood drawn. When she started to get her blood drawn she started crying and for some reason I started crying to. When we left she got some stuffed animal and for some reason I got one two. That is how we are the weird Reimers.
