Is rap a form of poetry? Why or why not? Support your answer with evidence.
I believe that rap is considered a form of poetry, because there is a lot of rhyming involved in rapping music. For example, here is a rap by NF called “Let You Down”.
Yeah, don’t talk down to me
That’s not gonna work now
Packed all my clothes and I moved out
I don’t even wanna go to your house
Everytime I sit on that couch
I feel like you lecture me
Eventually, I bet that we
Could have made this work and probably would’ve figured things out
But I guess that I’m a letdown
But it’s cool, I checked out
Oh, you wanna be friends now?
Okay, let’s put my fake face on and pretend now
Sit around and talk about the good times
That didn’t even happen
I mean, why are you laughing?
Must have missed that joke
Let me see if I can find a reaction
No, but at least you’re happy
If you look closely and read this verse of the song you can see that the words rhyme and are in rhythm with each other. If you look at this next example of a poem called The Raven by Edgar Allan Poe, you will see that just like in the rap you will see that the words rhyme and are in rhythm with each other.
You make good points in comparing the two. I agree with you…both are forms of artistic expression. Good job!!
Thank you Liz for commenting on my blog I appreciate it greatly. I am very glad that somebody agrees with me. Happy Blogging!
Awesome post Abby!
I love how you included a song the grade’s familiar with. I wish you gave more information about the rhythm patterns. I wonder if you like rap and poetry???
Happy blogging!

First of all thank you Alex for commenting on my blog, and thank you for critiquing this post on the rhythm patterns. I figured everybody in our grade would’ve known that song. I do like some rap music like NF, but I HATE poetry. I don’t like reading it or trying to figure it out. I mean if you are going to say something can you just write it in a form that I will understand it. Thank you again for commenting on my blog… Happy Blogging!
