Reincarnated Lamas…

Our prime purpose in this life is to help others-Dalai Lama XIV

  • What does this quote mean to you?
  • Who is the Dalai Lama?  Do a little research and summarize who the Dalai Lama is.
  • After completing your research, why would a person like the Dalai Lama say something like this?

I don’t agree with this quote. I mean, you still help others but that is not really the main purpose in life. Helping others is like the appetizer or the pre-games in football.

Dalai Lama is currently the 14th Dalai Lama. Some people think he is the reincarnation of Thubten Gyatso wich is obviously not true because reincarnation is not possible (Christian perspective…). He came to be the Dalai Lama like this…………tension……………more tension……………..okay let’s begin. When the previous Dalai Lama dies the High Lamas look for his ‘reincarnation’. They look at boys that were born around the same time the Dalai Lama dies. It takes them two to three years to identify the next Dalai Lama. The 14 Dalai Lama actually took four years to find. The High Lamas (does anybody else laugh when they read these names?…I did….I’m still laughing…) look for signs such as smoke, dreams, and water signs. To me this just sounds like a bunch of fluff. Then they take objects to the child that had belonged to the Dalai Lama and ask him to choose a couple. If the boy chooses the previous Dalai Lama’s artifacts they then decided that he is the reincarnation.

Dalai Lama received the Nobel Peace Prize for not getting violent with the Chinese government. Now do you understand why he said that??? I do………..

Comment down below if you think he deserved the Nobel Peace Prize. I, personally, don’t have an opinion on the matter. But who cares about me??? What about you???

Econo-Never Mind

Mrs. Carl: We have been learning about economics for a few weeks.  Now is your chance to tell us everything you know about economics!  Tell each other what you know about goods, services, opportunity cost, supply and demand, etc.  Talk about how your classroom checkbook and finance lessons have helped you gain more perspective to economic issues. Will you be a saver or spender when you grow up?  Why is it important to save for a “rainy day?”  This blog post will be graded and if possible, please print it out with your name on it!  Happy saving/spending!

So, to start off, there are tons of different ways to run an economy. There are two main systems, capitalism and socialism. Capitalism is based on private ownerships. It is a system of free enterprise. Free enterprise means the government shouldn’t interfere with the economy. The laws of supply and demand make sure that the economy runs smoothly in meeting the needs’ of the people. The powerpoint Concepts of Economics says,”Capitalism is characterized by competition in which there is rivalry in supplying or getting an economic service or good.” This means that there is rivalry/competition in getting a service or good. This is a character or trait of capitalism. It also states that sellers compete against sellers, and buyers compete against other buyers. It is like a economics competition. Buyers look for good deals while the sellers look to make the best deal while making them a good profit.

Socialism is when people think that the government should be in charge of economic planning, distribution of goods, and production. Theories of early socialism started around the late eighteenth century. Factory owners were becoming rich and workers were broke. This led to the idea that workers should get more of the profits of the factory. See, socialism went for more cooperation and were as capitalism favored competition and privately owned property.

Needs and wants are a very important part of the economy. Needs are things that we have to have in order to survive.  Wants are services and other goods that we wish for.

Supply and demand also play a giant part. Supply is when how many a certain good or service has for people to buy. Demand is how many people want to buy a service or good. Like when a new iphone comes out. The supply is how many of the iphones there are to buy. The demand is how many people want to buy the new phone. We also learned about importing and exporting goods and services to and from foreign countries.

Economics is an important part of our world. Though I have only scratch the surface of economics, I hope you learned something. If you were patient enough and read the entire way down to the end, thanks!

Hero’s Test

“A hero is an ordinary individual who finds the strength to persevere and endure in spite of overwhelming obstacles.” –  Christopher Reeve

Avocado: What does this quote mean to you?

Alex: Personally, this quote means a lot to me. It makes me feel like I should keep going and endure the hard times. I think that as long as I have a friend with me, I will feel encouraged to do my best and to keep striving towards my goal.

Avocado: Going back to what we discussed at the beginning of this unit, name two traits a hero should have and why they need those traits.

Alex: I think a hero should be someone who (like the quote says) finds the strength to persevere and keep going even if they fail over and over again. They should also be a role model to others. People look up to them because they did something that was admired by others. They acted courageously and heroically.

Avocado: Who in your own life do you consider a hero?  Why?

Alex: I would consider my best friend, Skye, my hero. She has always stood by me when times got rough. Ever since kindergarten, we have been the best of friends. We always help each other when the other falls. Skye is also good at looking out for her friends when they are being bullied. In fifth grade, someone was bullying me. Skye was there for me and we got through it together. She helped me up when I was in a depressing state. Without Skye, I would not be the person I am now, and nobody is ever going to get in between us, ever.

Avocado: Wow, that was powerful.

Alex: Just get to the next question.

Avocado: Name one person from history that has the qualities of a hero?  Why would you pick that person?

Alex: I would pick President Theodore Roosevelt. Roosevelt was a politician as well as a naturalist. He fought to preserve the National Parks. Since I want to preserve them too, we share the same dream. He is an american icon. Roosevelt is what pushed me towards helping the parks. They share a great deal of importance in america’s history.

Being A Coward Avocado Style

“It is much easier to be brave if you do not know everything.”-Anonymous

Me: Hmmmmmmm, I don’t think I like this quote.

Avocado: Why not???

Me: You’re just a avocado, I don’t need to justify myself to you!

Avocado: Oh yeah! Let’s see about that you fiend!

Me: If you don’t be quiet I will turn you into guacamole!

Why is this quote so……………meh??? Normally when I read a quote it makes me feel better and all good and tingly in side. This one just makes me say………….meh. I think, check that, I know that if you are actually brave you keep going even if you DO know everything. In some ways, it IS easier to be brave if you don’t know everything.

                                                                    Story time with Avocado

Avocado: Once upon a time, there lived a little avocado named Avocado. He lived in the land of Avocadoland, where everyone was an avocado.

Me: Wow, surprise surprise.

Avocado: Shush up! Anyways, the land of Avocadoland was is great peril. The princess, Lady Guacamole, was captured by an evil avocado dragon. Avocado was the bravest knight of all, he immediately went to the palace to find out where the Lady was held captive. The king, King Pit, told him were she was being held, which was non other than the Dragons Evil Cave That Is Shaped Somehow Like An Avocado. Avocado didn’t waste any time, he jumped onto his mighty steed and raced off towards the cave. The king suddenly remembered one last detail, but Avocado was too far away for the king to be heard. What was that detail you may ask? It was that the dragon could breathe chips! All Avocados hate chips!

Me: I love chips.

Avocado: STOP! DON’T SAY THAT WORD! HEY!

Me: CHIPS,CHIPS,CHIPS,CHIPS,CHIPS,CHIPS,CHIPS,CCCHHHIIIPPPSSS!!!!!!!

Avocado: STOP! Oh, whatever. Anyways, Avocado rushed the dragon on his avocado horse, but suddenly stopped. The dragon drew itself up to it’s full height and it blasted chips all over Avocado. Avocado dove behind a rock, shivering in fear. Then he realized he needed to save the Lady! She could die without him! Also the fact that the king might reward him handsomely, even though he forgot to say a very important detail. He drew his sword up and stabbed dramatically at the dragon. The dragon fell, and Avocado cried victor-

Me: The end, we get it and he gave the lady a wedding ring and they all lived happily ev-

Avocado: Nope! The dragon was playing dead! He silently snuck up behind Avocado and turned him into guacamole! The End!!! Thank you thank you!

Me:……………………………………….Well, okay. At least we get the point! So, Avocado was very brave even though the king forgot to mention that last detail! Cool, next!!!

Is This A Good Quote To Live By???

Me: I don’t think it is. Why would I want to do something without knowing what I’m getting into? I could possibly KILL myself if I lived by this quote! I remember the time when-

Avocado: All right folks thanks for stopping by my blog!

Me: This is my blog you little-

Avocado: Bye!!

Perfect Day with Avocado

Me: YAWWWN! Mehhhhhh.

Avocado: Goodmorning! How did you sleep?

Me: Mehhhhh. I’ve slept better.

Avocado: Fine, what do you want to do??

Me: Have a perfect day.

Avocado; Okay then, let’s rewind this day!!!

weeeeecchhherawichichizooombazoooootaaahooooowwweei!!!!

Okay, so my perfect day would start off by me waking up totally refreshed. Then I would get a ton of llamas and kittens and squirrels. They would all be named Alex Jr. Then I would go to school, take over, fire everyone, and then declare school is banned from North America. Then I would kick Trump out of office and take over the US. Then, I would take over other nation’s leaders and I would rule the world! Maybe then I will play 4 -square and beat Mr. Lewis (my teacher, who doesn’t have a blog), Dylan, Dimitriy, and Sydni. I’ll link their blogs down below! Then I would go on a trip to Alaska with Chiara, Skye, and Rebekah. I’ll link their blogs down below too! Comment down below what your perfect day would be like. Bye guys!!

Class Project-Dodecahedron

In My LA class, we are doing a book report called Dodecahedron. A Dodecahedron is a 3D figure with 12 pentagonal faces. What we have to do is choose a book we read in class and explain a  little about it on each side of a dodecahedron. When we are done writing down everything about that book, we will build the dodecahedron and hang them.

The book my partner, Rayne, http://blog.elanco.org/covertcjv/ and I have decided on is a book called “The Gymnast”. It is about a boy ( it doesn’t say his name) who was watching his cousin Isaac enviously one day because he was a gymnast (he was doing all of these tricks). When Isaac left, the main character decided to try and be a gymnast. Throughout the book he attempted a back flip 2 times, each time a failure. In the end, the boy gives up his quest to be a gymnast.

So, Rayne and I had to draw or print out a picture of the author and explain some things about him. The author is Gary Soto. He has wrote many books and is also an American Poet. If you are curious about Gary Soto, you could look up some information about him on the web.

Later in our project, we discovered we have to talk about another character. We decided to do his cousin, Isaac. He motivates the main character to try and become a gymnast by doing gymnastics in front of him. He also effects the main character which effects the plot events. The last statement about Isaac was that he lent his gymnast slippers and tape to the main character. this made him even more determined to become a gymnast.

After that, we talked about the mother a little.

When we were done with the character parts, we had to make 3 connections, Text-to-self, Text-to-Text, and Text-to-World. we wrote down our connections and continued. Following the previous activity, we must write 5 people that we think would enjoy this book. I personally, would think that my friend Gwen and my other friend Rebekah would LOVE this book because they both LOVE gymnastics. I will leave the links to their blogs at the end of this post, O.K..

Next, we have to draw our favorite scene and write a caption under it. I like the scene (this sounds evil) when the main character tries to do the second back flip because it says he sees stars and that reminds me of the time I saw stars when my head it the counter-top when I was a youngster. Any who, we then had to make an advertisement for the book. I thought we were supposed to make a poster, but I didn’t read the directions correctly, we were supposed to make it on the picture. Good thing Rayne stopped me.

Finally we have to rate the book. I gave it a five because I really liked the plot and how Gary Soto organized it, even though I’m not a gymnast. Then,I wrote down why.

So, after much concentration, we had to put it together with tape. Let me say, it was relieving to get it off my chest.  Yes!!!!!! were done!!!!! Wait…..Oops……..

We still have to present it.
