JSmucker-Iceman

The Iceman’s story begins in the valley below the Alps in northern Italy. The Iceman’s name is Bob. He lives in a small house on the edge of the woods nearby the village. Outside his house he grows wheat and herbs. It’s the springtime which means he needs to plant the plants he grew the past years. He used to live in the village nearby but he moved the the edge of the forest to escape a group of people called the hunters. They are an elite group of hunter and gatherers who want to steal the hunting ground in the valley from the villagers. However, the villagers are well-equipped, strong, and able to fight back. The leader of villagers is a man who is named Daniel. He is mid-aged and an experienced hunter and explorer. Legend has it that he crossed the Alpine mountains to the other side when he was younger and met the people who lived there. However, that story is well stretched. He is though, no fool. Bob would’ve fought with the villagers and stayed, but he found to old. He is well in his forties and would much rather live where he lives now.

Back when he was younger, he was a great shot. He could shoot a tick off a deer’s nose from a mile away with any bow and arrow. He would journey deep into the foothills of the Alps and bring back to the village several deer. Once, a group of men from a neighboring village tried to ambush the village to steal food and the village fought hard. Bob was there to save them. He shot a man with his bow, yanked the arrow out of the man, and shot another. After that, he was awarded a copper axe for his courage. He is still respected. He was a hero for the village, but not anymore. He lost his strength and athleticism, but not his wisdom and accuracy. He still journeyed into the woods and hunted, but not as far as he used to. It was a spring morning, he sat by his house eating oats and leftover deer meat when suddenly, an arrow flew in front of his face and landed on a tree by his house. He looked where the arrow came from. From behind a tree, an archer pointed a bow and arrow at him. He jumped through his door, grabbed his knife, and waited for the archer to come in. As the archer came in the house, Bob stabbed him. He took the bow, grabbed his quiver, and looked outside for any attackers. Three men came and attacked him. The one was stabbed, the other was shot, but the last cut his hand with a sharp stone. Bob fell back, grunting. As the attacker came to stab him, Bob kicked his face. Bob knocked him out. He used the time to escape into the forest. He would escape into the Alps. He knew who the attackers were, they were the enemy. The enemy who wanted to destroy the village, but how did they get there, and why would they want to kill an elderly man? None of that mattered, he needed to escape to the other side of the mountain.

Daniel told him that the people on the other side were peaceful, so that is where he was he was going. He quickly packed up as the man was knocked out, and headed up the mountain. As he made his exodus, the comrades of the attackers arrived at the house. As the knocked hunter lay on the ground and open his eyes, he was greeted by his comrades. There were two, one tall and muscular with blues eyes with a skinned-cap. The other was rather small and had long black hair with green eyes.

“How could you lose to a old man?” said the the tall one. “How strong are you really.”

“The old man may be weak but he is strong,” replied William, the man who lost to Bob in the fight. “Let’s go track him, he is bound to be close.” William replied. The hunters followed Bob as if he were a deer and followed every track, every clue of him. As they trekked up the mountain, they got closer and closer.

“There he is, I see him,” said the shorter man. He pointed to a small cliff. Bob sat there eating deer meat. The hunter grabbed an arrow and pulled back, aiming at Bob’s upper left back and left shoulder area. Although he was short, he was a great shot. He hit smack dab where he wanted it. Bob cried in shock, he fell down, trying to pull the arrow out. Blood gushed out of his body. He then breathed his final breath.
