Pathways to Success

Garden Spot High School

Jake Graybill – Concrete Co-Op

By the end of your first conversation with Jake Graybill, you will be shocked to learn that he only turned 18 a few weeks ago!  Jake is one of those guys who just “gets it.”  He understands hard work, a strong work ethic, integrity, and commitment.  He’s one of those guys who doesn’t mind getting his hand dirty.  In fact, Jake has often said, “the more dangerous and dirty, the more I like it.”  When Jake started the Pathways2Success Cooperative Education program at the beginning of his senior year he was working for E&G Concrete where he assisted with pouring concrete foundations for residential and commercial properties early in the morning before his first class at Garden Spot would begin.  After school he worked at the E&G Concrete owner’s farm, Red Rose Polled Hereford.  There he tended to the farm animals, ran machinery and did odd jobs around the farm until late into the evening.  However, in Jake’s heart is an entrepreneurial spirit.  Throughout the entire semester, he spoke with his teacher about his latest idea, invention, job aspiration, and small projects that he was running on the side.  One day, Jake came to class saying that he found a bunch of free clothing washers and dryers on various yard sale websites.  He picked them up, fixed them and sold them all for a profit in a matter of just a few weeks.  Currently, Jake is preparing for graduation.  He has a job lined up for the summer to work on a boat in Maryland.  He is going to take the summer to really think about his future career and make some serious long-term decisions.  Whatever he decides, he will do it with great gusto!
