BBES Intruder Drill!!!!!

                                                                                         By: Katie

Twice a year we do a very important routine called the intruder drill. We do this drill so we know exactly what to do in case of a real emergency. We would go over to the cubbies because they’re in a triangular shape and nobody can see us if they look through the door window.

While all the students are doing their job of making sure they’re are quiet and that we’re hiding, the teacher is putting a little metal sick that locks the door, for good nobody can get through it, nobody.

But if the intruder is not outside and they are about to come in or he is close to us in the building, our classroom has a door that goes outside. When we go out the door we have to turn the corner and then there’s a cornfield that we walk through twice a year to know what direction to go to get through the cornfield.

Now in case of a real emergency where we need to get out of the classroom, we have to run through on a diagonal, the closest place to run to is the SportsMan Shop. We all know that when we get to the SportsMan shop we need to meet at the front, in a drill, but in an emergency we have to actually go in. #16STUBC

Hi Kitlyn, its Taryn! I love that you talked about the intruder dill for whoever dose not know what to do. I wish you would talk about if the class was stuck in the room or something like that, I wonder if you could talk about an other thing like a tornado dill but I’m not sure about that.

Hi Taryn!!! I’m so glad your class is starting blogs this year!!!! I would’ve loved to talk about the weather drill, but we were told to only pick one from the Student Blogging Challenge. Great hearing from you. URL:http://blog.elanco.org/mullins203/

Wow, Katie! It sounds like your class is very prepared for an emergency. I like that you described each step in detail. I encourage you to come back to the third paragraph and check the use of “cornfield” in the last sentence. Lastly, I am curious about one thing. Why must you run in a diagonal across the cornfield?

    Continue the superb blogging, Katie!

Hi mom!!! Thanks for commenting. We have to run in a diagonal because that’s where the Sportsman shop is. If we ran straight we would end up running through grass or something. I will make sure to look at my third paragraph!!! URL:http://blog.elanco.org/mullins203/

Hi Katie! When my class did this drill, we had to climb into the cubbies in our classroom and be as slient as we could. If the intruder came down our hallway, we were supposed block the door up and jump out the window(we were on the first floor… Don’t worry, no one died). We never actually had an intruder before but our code word would come over the announcements so every class could hear it. If someone was walking in the hallway, they were supposed to run to the nearest classroom and say where they were from and what they were doing. If this actually happened we were supposed to meet with the rest of our class in a special meeting area. Hey, maybe you should come check my blog out… 2021bas.edublogs.org

Hi Katie! At my school, we have a lock down drill. It is sort of like your Intruder drill, but instead of running out of our classroom, we lock ourselves into our classroom. If a intruder came into our school, the bell would ring three times then we would lock the doors, close the windows, turn off the lights and be quiet. If the intruder came down the hallway or close to the classrooms, we would block the door with the desks and chairs. We never had to do it before but we have drills. (without barricading the doors) If someone was in the restroom when the drill or a real intruder comes, we would go to the nearest classroom, knock on the door, say our name and what class we are in, and the teacher would let us in.
