Tropical Cyclone Amos

Recently a Tropical Cyclone they named Amos has formed in the Pacific.  It’s route shows that it will be hitting American Samoa this weekend.  The cyclone is predicted to cause strong winds, flooding rain, and high surf conditions.  Currently its wind speeds are at 105 miles an hour and is moving E towards American Samoa at 9 miles per hour.  The bad news is right as it is predicted to make landfall its wind speed will have increased to 120 miles an hour.  This will make Amos a powerful Category 3 storm with wind speeds up to 120 miles an hour.  After it makes landfall it will continue on its course, but the forecast shows it to weaken from that point on.

There are severe warnings currently out for the island of Tutulia and Manua for for wind gusts over 75 miles per hour that are capable of downing trees and power lines.  Since storms are unpredictable there is still a good chance that they may get less of an impact, but on the flip side they could get a much worse impact.  Depending on the direction the storm goes it could change course, and cause more damage to the islands if the eye goes over land.  It could also change direction and head back out to sea, which would make less of an impact on the islands.  There are warnings out for intense rainfall and high surf.  The National Weather Service shows that the most dangerous threat from Amos is going to be its high surf, which will bombard the coastlines.  The high surf warning is calling for the water to rise to at least 18-22 feet higher than usual.  This is a big threat to the Samoa islands and I hope the people on the islands take Amos seriously instead of underestimating the threat Amos possesses.
