February 24, 2016 Tornado Outbreak

I read an article on a tornado outbreak that struck the Southern states of Mississippi, Louisiana, Alabama, and Florida.  The article was about states that had been ravaged by a storm outbreak.  The strongest tornado was an EF3 that hit Louisiana.  The heaviest damage was when the tornado went through a trailer park and killed three people as well as injuring 31.  This was an early outbreak in the tornado season, and many people weren’t expecting it.

The trailer park in Louisiana after the EF3 tornado went through:

Lousiana Tornado

This outbreak as well as causing tornadoes in the southern states there was a lot of wind damage and possible tornadoes in North Carolina, Virginia, and even Pennsylvania.  This outbreak caused the EF2 tornado that struck White Horse and other towns near us.  Another state that had a big tornado was Florida.  Florida was hit by an EF2 tornado that heavily damaged 94 homes in Escambia County.  Finally the last state that was ravaged by an EF2 tornado was Lamar Country, Mississippi.  This tornado killed one man.

In all this tornado outbreak was a shocker to meteorologists.  They weren’t expecting an outbreak like this so early in the tornado season.  This outbreak had ten tornadoes and killed 4 people overall.  This article made me realize that tornadoes can never be probably predicted.  They can strike whenever and wherever.  No matter what season it is, and where.  There have been tornadoes on every continent except Antarctica, and there has even been tornadoes on other planets in our solar system.  Recently tornadoes even struck at 3 AM in the morning.  They can come at any time, and when they come unexpectedly they wreak havoc on the unprepared.  This article just made me realize how much further science has yet to advance.  We need to learn more about tornadoes and how to better predict and prepare for them.

  • That sounds horrible about the damage that was done to the areas in the affected areas. It is scary how we can’t predict the weather but hopefully in the future someday we can.
