Honoring Tim Samaras

I read an article called Storm Chaser Tim Samaras: One Year After his Death, his Gift is Unmatched.  This article is about remembering the well known storm chaser Tim Samaras and how people are honoring him.  Tim Samaras died May 31, 2013 in an EF3 tornado that struck El Reno.  He was an inventor who made many technical advanced in weather equipment.  He made pods that would be placed in the path of the tornado and that were full of weather equipment.  They were called “turtle pods” and they could withstand the harsh conditions within the tornado.  Tim Samaras got groundbreaking research done in his life and after his death no one has come close to his accomplishments.  The storm chasing community is devastated at the loss.  No one is stepping up to fill Tim’s shoes and no one is capable of the inventions Tim Samaras could create.  To honor him they have had speeches within the meteorology community and have a shrine at the site of his death.  Without him the storm chasing community has been at a stand still waiting for someone to become the next Tim Samaras.

Tim

This article made me extremely sad.  Tim Samaras is one of my idols.  When he died the whole community was devastated.  He was the most cautious storm chaser out there, and yet he was the one to perish.  It made me sad to think that we lost such an amazing mind.  He had a way to think outside of the box that no one else has.  His inventions were the very best and accomplished feats that no one ever dreamed could be done.  Tim Samaras left behind a legacy and a huge footprint on the world of storm chasing.  He will forever be remembered by me and everyone else he touched as well as go down in history as an idol in storm chasing.

  • I really liked your summary of the article you read. It is sad that he died and it sounds like he was very important. It’s cool how people built a shrine where he died so that he will always be remembered even though the way you talked about him and from what I understand from your summary he will be remembered anyway. Maybe someday someone will be able to do the research that he was doing but not to replace him. Instead if they start doing the research as well they can use it as a way to honor him so that his legacy continues as the guy that started the project and lost his life doing what he loves.
