Sarah Roshi was a girl that loved being with animals. Her family has many pets, but that comes with a price. She will come soon to know her life will change forever…
. . .
It was Sarah’s 9th birthday. She awoke in the middle of the night. She heard a strange noise,…It was coming from the backyard. It was barking, and a noise like a roar, combined with grrr. She recognized the barking. It was her Australian Shepherd Cali. She was frightened, but she had to see what was going on. She walked with caution to the back door. Then, when she opened the blinds, she saw something so terrifying, and bone-chilling she was frozen in fear. Her precious dog, was in a to-the-death fight between a Cougar. She grabbed the doorknob, and slowly twisted it. Then she pushed open the door. The cougar stopped, smelling Sarah’s sent in the air. Sarah yelled, “CALI! COME ON GIRL!” Cali ran towards Sarah while Sarah shut the door as fast as she could. “Are you okay girl?” Sarah asked with worry. But Sarah saw Cali was badly wounded. Cali had a deep cut on her back-leg-thigh. Sarah’s dad was a surgeon, so she knew somewhat how to stitch. But she didn’t care how good or how bad she was at it… she had to fix up Calis leg. She picked her up waddling with the heavy weight of her Australian Shepherd. She set Cali on the couch, with Cali’s head lying on the pillow. Waiting for Cali to fall asleep, she went and got her dad’s bag, grabbed the stitches and needle,(with the numbing shot) and went back to Cali. She gave Cali the shot in her thigh, then went to stitching. Then her dad came out getting ready for his night/early morning shift at the hospital. He stopped. Sarah, with tears in her eyes said, “ Please don’t get mad at me dad! Cali got a bad wound from a cougar and I have to stitch it up or her leg will get worse than it already is!” Sarah sniffled. Her dad walked up to her and wiped the tears off her face. “Why would I be mad at you. I’m so proud of you. You got Cali away from a cougar, took responsibility of her, and you are stitching up her leg! I couldn’t be more proud.” He said. “Now, how about I take it from here. You have to get to bed. We have a big day tomorrow.”
“And what exactly are we doing tomorrow dad?”
“It’s a surprise.”He chuckled- “You’ll have to wait and see.”
“ Aren’t you going to stitch up her leg?”
“I will. You get off to bed now.”
He kissed her on her forehead and Sarah went to bed.
The next morning Sarah woke up, got dressed and zoomed out into kitchen. She didn’t even notice her father talking on the phone. Sarah grabbed a jelly filled donut and some sprite. She gulped the sprite down and ate the donut as fast as she could. She was about to go into her room (for some reason) when her dad called “Sarah are you ready to go?”
“Oh. Wait. What?” Sarah said-”Oh is it time to go? Is mom and Hunter ready too?”
“Honey we’re sitting on the couch.” Her mother said with a laugh.
“Okay guys let’s go out. Oh yeah and grab Cali.”
“Okay guys close your eyes!” He said with a bit of excitement in his voice.
