Mrs. Whitson’s 2nd Grade Brook Trout!!!
In Mrs. Whitson’s 2nd grade class there are brook trout. There were 186 eggs and they turned to alevin and they just turned into redd. 53 eggs did not make it so there were originally 239 eggs. They are black and brown. Brook trout are the only native They have to have trout to the east.
When brook trout turn into alevin they don’t have a mouth, something on their stomach called a yolk sac which helps them eat. they have a certain temperature in their tank so they don’t get too cold or too hot. The temperature is 53 degrees. To get to the school they came in a UPS truck in a bag that came in a box with ice packs underneath it. Brook trout lay 1,000 eggs at age 2. Usually only 10 make it to adulthood. When brook trout are eggs they are clear and you can see eyes and the spine. Then the trout turn into fry. If you point your finger up and bend it the joint in the middle of your finger the fry is as long as that.
The trout have slime on them now. They help the fish swim faster and if a predator tries to grab it it slips. The scales protect the trout’s skin. Some of the trout are swimming crazily and some of them aren’t. They are swimming up to the surface. They are hiding in the closest place can if they see a shadow. They like eating Fishy flakes. They say Blub BLub BLUb BLUB! They will turn into fingerling soon. Some trout are swimming high up while others are staying down near the bottom of the tank. They will die if something or someone touches them.

The Cloud Man
By: Maggie and Connor
On November 28th 1772
The sky was a shiny blue
That day Luke Howard was born
He might have eaten pureed corn
He would stare and stare into the vast sky
And he always thought about clouds “Why”
Because there was something to be found out
And Luke Howard wanted to learn about them no doubt
He named the clouds
Which impressed the crowds
He made his mark in history
Because the clouds were quite a mystery
Luke was part of a club
To study clouds, not in a pub
Luke thought there were three main cloud types of clouds
Cumulus, Stratus and Cirrus were loud.
He named the clouds in Latin
He wasn’t born in Manhattan
He was really born in London
Which is on the same continent as Dublin
To name the clouds Cumulus, Stratus and Cirrus
Must mean that Luke was fearless
There were many other different clouds
Like Cumulonimbus the one that was loud
In Latin, Cirrus meant curl of the hair
In Latin, Stratus means layer.
In Latin, Cumulus means heap or pile
Naming the clouds must make Luke smile
Luke had a very nice wife
She was part of his life
I wonder if they had a good first date
I also wonder if her last name was Slate
This is the story of Luke Howard
I’m sure you’ll agree that Luke wasn’t a coward
This is the end of the doings of a man
Who is famous forever because of his plan
Week 8: My Communities
I live in the community of East Earl which is located in Pennsylvania which is one of the fifty states in the United States of America.
I live in a few other communities. I am in a dancing community. It is an Irish Dancing studio called Hooley School of Irish Dance. I usually go on Fridays but if I miss it I go on Mondays. Sometimes they have a BIG competition called a feis (fu-esh). We have costumes for special performances. They are blue skirts, black shirts and a green and blue design down the shirt.
Also I play an instrument at my school Blue Ball Elementary. I play the flute. The flute is part of the woodwind section. The flute is silver and has many keys. I go to practice on Mondays. I go from 10:30- 11:30 and then 1:30-3:00. We have 30 minute classes and there are many names for each group like Alpha, Bravo, Charlie, Delta, Echo, Foxtrot, Golf and Hotel. I am in the Alpha group with 2 other people named Lila and Baylie. Our teacher’s name is Mrs. Schoener.
These are some of the communities that I live in.
