The article that I chose to read is called “Major floods swamp Australia’s east coast, claiming 8 lives.” In this article the author wrote about how the city Brisbane was “under water” after heavy rain brought a record flooding to some of Australia’s east coast locations and killed eight people. Furthermore, the article also goes on to discuss how several people are being searched for like a 70 year old solo sailor along with another man from a more west and another more northwest. Approximately 2,145 homes and 2,356 businesses were submerged Monday along with 10,827 partially flooded properties. Some said that the amount of rainfall in such a short period of time is extraordinary. As an overall result, many services in Brisbane had been halted like the use of major roads, trains, and ferries. Not only that, but the evacuation of over 15,000 people has been conducted in neighboring cities. My personal thoughts on this are that it is pretty insane and I feel bad for all of those that reside in Australia, Brisbane specifically. My questions are how does the city plan to recover from this in the upcoming days? Along with just a more general question of which types of areas typically suffer more from flooding, rural, urban, or suburban?
