A Major Crack Found on Bridge Linking Arkansas and Tennessee

This past week, a crack was reported on the Interstate 40 bridge that links Arkansas and Tennessee. The bridge was officially shut down on Wednesday, May 12th, while engineers and officials say it could take months to repair. Cars, tractor trailers, and barges are all put on detours for safety precautions so no more damage is done to the bridge or if it were to collapse. The crack is said to be a “‘significant fracture’ in one of the two 900-foot horizontal steel beams,” CBS reports. It was brought to attention when two frantic 911 calls were received. It has completely backed up both land and water traffic.
