July 17 Elyse and Griffin – Tell us what you thought of Vietnam?

Elyse Mundorff

  1. Halong Bay was one of the most beautiful things to experience. The tall islands and the teal water were so amazing, which made our time on the boat a great experience.
  2. The views from the mountains of Sapa were so extravagant. The homestay was one of my favorite places. Also, the lifestyle of the Hmong people was fascinating. And although the hike was long and wet, it was so neat to see the vastness of the mountains.
  3. Serving at the Center for victims of agent orange and the orphanage were eye-opening. It made me remember how incredibly blessed I am to be healthy and able. The joy of the children living under their circumstances was really uplifting and getting the opportunity to make a small difference was really rewarding.

Griffin Witmer:

One of my favorite destinations in Vietnam was the city of Saigon (Ho Chi Minh City). The market was right next to the hotel that we were staying in so we were able to walk to it whenever we had free time. One of my favorite parts about the market was being able to bargain for lower prices with the vendors.  This was a new concept to me since prices are fixed in the U.S.

Perhaps the best part about Saigon was the McDonalds that was about a 5-minute walk from the hotel.  I enjoyed the Vietnamese food but after a while it became repetitive and it was nice to be able to eat familiar food again. I was thankful for the opportunity to go to Vietnam and experience their history and culture.
