Millions, Billions and Trillions!

Today in math, students worked on putting large numbers in perspective.  Our student teacher, Miss Lewars, read the book Millions, Trillions and Billions by David Adler.  She then showed students the population of various states by doing an activity with sugar.  Each grain of sugar represented one person.  Ask your child how many million people are in Pennsylvania!

Welcome Back!

Hello second grade families!

I hope you are enjoying your summer and are looking forward to a great school year. Our second grade team is asking that families fill in this brief survey so we can gather some information from you prior to the start of the school year.

Please click here to access the survey. Enjoy your remaining summer days and we look forward to seeing you soon!

40 Book Challenge

This year, students in my language arts class were challenged to read 40 books of varying levels and genres by the end of 2nd grade. This group of kiddos completed the 40 Book Challenge!         (not pictured: Kendyl and Kyle)

I am SO proud of these Super Readers!

Math Review Games

My math students have been busy working in a small group to create a review game on one of the topics we learned in 2nd grade math. Today students had the chance to rotate through each game and play some of the student created games from our class!

Think! Energy

Today our second graders learned about energy and how to conserve it during the Think! Energy presentation by PPL.  Students used their bodies as conductors to create a closed circuit.  They also tested different materials to determine which would be a conductor or an insulator!

If you sent back the permission form, your child will be coming home with a Bright Kids energy kit.  Please use the items in your home.  Once you have used them, fill in the included form and send it back to school by October 18th!
