What Have We Been Learning?
Rules & Routines:
- We have been busy learning the rules of kindergarten. Ask your child if he/she can tell you all about them.
- We are learning how to be good listeners.
Math:
- We have been working hard to learn all about our colors and shapes. We will be having a special celebration at the end of the month to commemorate all that we have learned.
- We have also begun to learn to recognize and identify the numbers 0-5
Language Arts:
- We are learning the parts of a book: front cover, back cover. We are also learning the job of the author and illustrator.
- We have learned the words I and am! (Next week we will learn the and little.)
- We have learned to identify the letters Aa, Bb, Cc, Dd, Ee, Ff, Gg, Hh, Ii, Jj, Kk, Ll, Mm and Nn (Next week– O, P, Q, R, S).
- We have been practicing counting words in sentences, identifying rhyming words and even counting the syllables in words.
- The children are very excited to read independently using the books in their book baskets. Children can read the words they know or tell a story using the pictures.
What can you practice at home?
- Writing their name using a capital at the beginning and the rest of the letters lowercase
- Rhyming, syllables and counting words in sentences
- Counting, identifying and writing numbers
