Dylan Huyard – Woodworking Co-Op

My name is Dylan Huyard, I work for Weavers Custom Woodworking in New Holland.  I started my co-op while working at Yoder’s Country Market.

While I worked at Yoder’s I was their cart pusher and cashier. When working in carts, I would have to take carts from outside in the cart rack and bring them back into the cart room. Another job I did while I worked on carts was to do the trash around the store and in the office. I would also lock the doors every night if I work on carts. When I would work on the register, I would mainly check people out in the line, but I would help stock shelves and milk coolers.

I started to work at Weavers Custom Woodworking in November, and I am a sander there. What we do is sand the face frame of the cabinet and sand the floor of the cabinet to make it flush with the edge of the face frame. We also sand the sides of the cabinet if it has a full side. We also puddy all holes and cracks on the wood. We have two different color options and we have paint and stain. Painted cabinets we sand up to 120 and stained cabinets we sand up to 150. The other jobs I do are locking up the shop after we close which requires that I walk around the building and make sure the doors are locked.

I learned a lot with my time doing the co-op course and from my jobs. The jobs have taught me a work ethic I wish I could implement into school. Another thing I have picked up along the way was a little bit more patience. I also have other plans in the future with going to ATC this fall and trying to get into the automotive industry.
