Pathways to Success

Garden Spot High School

Joe Mininger – Automotive & Construction Co-Op

My name is Joseph Mininger and I am in the co-op program at Garden Spot High School. I decided to do the co-op program because it allows me to go to work halfway through the day. It also will let me work full-time second semester with getting school credit for it. I like this opportunity because I enjoy working and that is what I want to do after I graduate so it is nice to explore my options and get a head start on my career.

I work at New Holland Auto Group in the quickie lube garage. I Change oil, patch tires, rotate tires, and do small inspections on cars. As this job is straight forward there is a lot that goes behind it. For every car that comes in, we must fully inspect and fill out paperwork. After all the cars or done or if it’s not busy we are usually cleaning up.

This experience helped me explore more of my options and know more of what I want to do for my possible long-term career it helped me learn I like working outside more and cars are more of a hobby rather than a career. I plan on working at a hardscaping and landscaping company in the 2nd semester to attain new skills and do what I love. My goal is to eventually own my own business someday.

Finally, this class made it clear to me what I would prefer to do with my career options before it was very unclear. This class also helped with future planning. For example, I know better about saving for retirement and better planning for a business. I would recommend this class to anyone who wants to get out and work also to learn good values about life.
