Hello families!

Sixth grade has been very busy!

We completed our first trip on our “The Places We Can Go” tour to Alvernia University. Students toured the grounds and facilities of Alvernia. Our group had tour guides that not only showed us the locations, but shared their love of their school. After the tour, students had pizza and watched a basketball game. Students, parents and our New Holland staff had a wonderful experience. We will share our experiences at the next Elanco School Board meeting on Monday, February, 25. We hope you can join us on our next stop at my alma mater, Millersville University.

In my language arts class, we just finished the read aloud “Jeremy Fink and the Meaning of Life.” Next up, is “The Watsons Go to Birmingham.” Our students are also reading books for their literature circles. Currently, the class is divided in to 4 groups and each group has a different book. Each week, students have an assigned reading and a particular job. Students share their findings with their literature circle.

In social studies, students are finishing up a unit on the Branches of Government and the role of checks and balances in our government. For a final project, students will create their own bill, and attempt to get it “passed” in our classroom government.

Our math unit is all about algebra. Students are learning about variables, expressions, equations and more. Our final test will be Monday, February 29. We will begin our next unit on geometry the next day.
