Hello families,

I hope that you had a nice, relaxing break with your child and families.

This month, we will start many new topics in class. In language arts, students will focus on writing informational essays. They will also complete a book project on the literature circle books we finished before the holiday break. In addition, we will start new literature circle books later in the month.

In math, students will learn about algebra, and in science, we will discover the different types of simple machines.

Special Meeting:

This Wednesday, the sixth grade teaching team, along with Mr. Barrett, and Mrs. Sneath, invite all sixth grade parents to attend a special meeting at 7 p.m. titled “The Places You Could Go.” At this informational meeting, we will present our plan for college visits, and explain why we think it’s not too early to start thinking about college. We sincerely hope you can attend.

Since our Language Arts and Math homework is usually the same every night, I have updated the homework page to reflect current homework practices. If anything should change, I will update it here.

In Language Arts, students are to read 20 minutes a night and submit one weekly reflection. In addition, they need to complete 3 spelling assignments of their choice, from any combination of Tic, Tac, Toe and Spelling City. All language arts homework is due on Friday.

In Math, students will do a teacher-created homework sheet every Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. Each night’s homework is due the next day.
