We’re back!

I hope you all had an enjoyable break! I know I enjoyed having some down time to enjoy time with family and friends. We have been working hard since we came back to school! Our Unique Learning theme for this month is all about health and staying healthy. Our story last week was called “Catch that Sneeze!”. The students absolutely LOVED that story! We had fun pretending to sneeze and catching it with a tissue. We also made an art project showing how we use a tissue to catch our germs. This week our story is called “Sammy Gets Healthy” and it’s all about how a boy starts making healthier choices. We are learning all about how to have good hygiene, eating healthy foods, and being active. This is a great unit!

We are also working hard on our IEP goals and objectives. It’s hard to believe the second quarter ends this Friday, January 16th. Reminder that there is no school this Monday, January 19th. Enjoy the long weekend!

Holiday Break

It’s so hard to believe that the winter break is upon us already! This year is just flying by! We have had a very busy few weeks since our Thanksgiving break. We’ve enjoyed learning about different holidays, hearing many songs and stories related to this time of year, and we have especially loved listening to the 5th grade concert, the band performance, and the holiday sing-a-long! So many fun events at our wonderful school! Here are some pictures from the past couple of weeks. I hope you enjoy them! Also, from all of us in room 116- we wish you and your family a very Merry Christmas and wonderful holiday season together! May the new year bring many joyous things to your lives! We will see the kids back in school on January 5th! 🙂

Back from Thanksgiving

Hi all!

I hope you all had a nice Thanksgiving spending time with your family and friends. I know I enjoyed having a few days to rest, recoup, and enjoy time with loved ones.

We are back in full swing ready to learn throughout the next few weeks before we are on break again for the holidays! This time of year always seems to go by so quickly! Our focus for the next few weeks will be winter and holidays. We will be reading stories from our Unique Learning Curriculum and just some other story books related to the holiday season. We will be supplementing our lesson with crafts and other fun activities! We love finding new, fun ways to work on our academics and IEP goals. Be sure to check back for photos of all of our fun lessons! 🙂

This week

It seems like we have some germs spreading around our class this week! Unfortunately a lot of our kiddos  have been out sick at some point this week. We really do our best to keep our classroom and the materials clean, however, sometimes getting sick is just inevitable! I ask you to please remember to contact me if you are keeping your child home from school. This allows us to be prepared for the day and also to know which buses we need to keep waiting for in the morning. Also, please remember to send an absence note in with your child when he or she returns to school.

Our Unique Learning story for this week was called “What Can Ava Do on a Rainy Day?”. We listened to the story multiple times and answered the comprehension questions after the story. We also talked about rainy days and what we do on those types of days. The kids also got to feel “rain” by being misted with a water bottle. (Only a little bit! 🙂 ) We have also been learning about Thanksgiving this week. We got to activate an online stories using our wireless switch. The kids LOVE doing that! They are fascinated watching the computer screen change when they hit the button on the switch. We also listened to some Thanksgiving/Turkey songs and watched some videos! We made some crafts this week as well to tie in with our lessons.

Enjoy the rest of the week and have a wonderful weekend!

Hello!

Welcome to my first blog post! I am hoping to update the blog weekly with our classroom lessons, activities, resources, etc. I am eager to share with you what we are doing in our room! We have had a very busy first quarter of the school year. It’s hard to believe it is almost Thanksgiving already! Time sure does fly when you are having fun! We have been very busy learning and growing these first few months of the school year.

As you know, we use the Unique Learning Systems curriculum in our classroom. This curriculum provides a monthly theme filled with lessons and activities. Our themes so far this year have been Life in Early America and Weather. The students have been enjoying listening to the stories, reading the stories through activating switches, and answering comprehension questions. Of course we have been supplementing the lessons with videos, songs, and crafts! I believe in bringing in as many resources and activities as possible into each monthly theme. The more senses and modalities we can engage in our units, the better! I am hoping to post our themes on the blog as well as some of the activities we are doing to go along with the unit. Please feel free to share feedback and ideas!

We have really been enjoying the beautiful fall weather by going outside on the playground for recess. Hopefully winter will stay away a little while longer so we can continue to go outside each day!

Thanks for reading the first blog post! Please consider subscribing to our class blog so that you can receive notification each time it is updated with something new and exciting!
