October 13. 2013
We had a WONDERFUL week in third grade! The students adjusted well to a few changes in our schedule such as picture day and the hearing screening. They continue to show me how respectful and responsible they are each day!
Reading: We held a review week in reading and focused on skills such as compare and contrast, author’s purpose, sequencing, and story elements. We are continuing with comparing and contrasting this week as we look at fiction and non-fiction passages. We will also work with author’s purpose. Students took the Unit 1 Benchmark for Reading Street last week and will enter their answers online this week. Those tests will be sent home in Friday Folders on the 18th.
Math: In math, we started place value. The students are all doing an awesome job as we explore digit values, expanded form, word form, standard form, and comparing numbers. We will test on place value Friday, October 18th.
Science: We have continued working on agriculture as Ag. Day at Brubaker Park is Tuesday! Students have learned why agriculture is important to us and we have started to look at the food and fiber system. This week we will be writing about our Brubaker Park trip, continue with the food and fiber system, and review some of the important concepts from the unit. Our next unit will be on weather and it will begin next week.
