Student Intern Recognized for Outstanding Work

Adrianna Vargas Smith was placed as a student intern for Juile Groft for the fall semester.   She has done an amazing job for Julie.  Several of the activities she has created  have already been used in the Anatomy class.  The students have enjoyed all of the activities and said they helped them learn. The internship program is a wonderful opportunity for our students to gain experience in the teaching field.  Adriana created her own unit plan and even taught one  Anatomy classes.  Last school year, Arrianna took Anatomy, so her insight has been extremely beneficial.  Julie Groft would like Adriana to be recognized for her outstanding work as a student intern.

Autism Support Student Launders Clothing for Dolls

A shout out goes to Aaron Seldomridge, a student in  Rachael Kelly’s  Autism Support class.

As part of his education program, Aaron is (tasked with) laundering clothing for the infants used in Mrs. Buncie’s class.

Aaron has taken on the task of helping to maintain the clothing used in the  Baby Think It Over Project.

This program sends computerized infant simulators home with students in the 9th  grade rotation.  The dolls help students experience some of the demands an  infant places on time, activities, and sleep.

Aaron has taken the responsibility of keeping the supplies clean and ready to go for the next round of students.

Many, many thanks Aaron for all your help!

Thank you to Mrs. Buncie for considering Aaron and helping to orchestrate this wonderful opportunity!

Anatomy Students Learn from Student with Cerebral Palsy

Anatomy students recently learned the parts of the vertebral column.  The students read an article about paraplegic lifestyles and then they had to brainstorm with a class mate on how their lives would change if became a paraplegic.  The students then wrote down questions they had for one of our own GS students that is in a wheelchair most of the time.  Zach Waddington is one of our life skill students who has Cerebral Palsy.  He agreed to come to Julie Groft’s Anatomy Class, answer student questions and talk to them about his lifestyle.  Zach did a wonderful job.  Mrs. Horst, his aide, read the questions provided by the students, and he answered them the best he could.  His presentation was very enlightening.   One thing that Zach told the students made a major impact, “I am a regular teenager just like you, the only difference is I can’t use my arms or legs.”  He has an inspiring attitude the students will absolutely remember for a lifetime.  The students  wanted to thank him as a class, so they made cards for him, gave him some cookies and a GS baseball jersey.  Thanks Zach!

9th Graders Participate in Mock Interview

The 9th grade Business & You students participated in mock interviews.  Members of the community volunteered to interview students for jobs that they may be interested in pursuing in their futures.  Students prepared for the mock interview by writing a résumé, references, and a cover letter.  They practiced answering interview questions by writing answers to possible interview questions and by getting videotaped in front of their peers.  The students then critiqued the videos and gave suggestions on how to improve.  On the day of the mock interviews, students wore professional dress and became young professionals!  Much thanks to JB Martin, Carol Leaman, Chuck Leaman, Doug Beaver, Susie Beck, Jim Brackett, Karen Buch, Wendy Horst, Keith Ramsey, Vicki Hartman, Anita Yoder, Orie Good, Patrick Winters, Shelly Martin, and Josh Martin for helping to give our students this excellent experience!
