PE Field Trip to Shank’s Mare

About 75 Garden Spot 10th Grade Physical Education Students traveled to Shank’s Mare along the Susquehanna River for a day of kayaking, hiking and stream studies. Students learned some of the basics of rowing and steering a kayak as they were guided along a 1.5 mile stretch of the river. One of the groups was fortunate to spot one of the nine nearby nesting bald eagles above the river bank. Also during the trip, students hiked along Fishing Creek to complete a stream study. The group collected a variety of macro-invertebrates to evaluate the overall quality of the stream water.
